Brisbane Lions v Port Adelaide betting tips, prediction & odds; AFL round 7 preview 1/5

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our Brisbane v Port Power, predictions and odds analysis for their AFL round 7 clash at the Gabba on Saturday night.

This is probably the second-most fascinating game of the round after the Friday night blockbuster between Richmond and the Western Bulldogs, with both these teams among the pre-season favourites to lift the 2021 flag.

Friday Night: Richmond v Western Bulldogs tips

Port Adelaide have lived up to the hype and are in the top few lines of betting with Australian betting sites. Meanwhile, Brisbane have overcome a rocky start to put themselves back in good shape.

The Lions escaped with a miracle after-the-siren win against lowly Collingwood, had an honourable loss to the red-hot Dogs and have since handled Essendon and Carlton with aplomb.

But now they must step up again against the well-drilled Port side who are in full premiership mode.

Brisbane have a great recent record against the Power, having won the past three match-ups, including a 37-point drubbing at the Gabba in round five last season, their only clash for the year.

The Lions though will miss Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale (ankle) for the long term, and have also ruled out reliable defender Darcy Gardiner (concussion) and midifelder Jarrod Berry (groin) for this week’s game. But generally the list is in pretty good shape apart from the season-ending knee injury to exciting youngster Cam Rayner.

Port have some worries of their own, with prolific skipper Travis Boak to miss this match with a quad injury. They also have gun youngsters Zak Butters and Xavier Duursma out for extended periods.

This clash is a chance for Brisbane to re-emerge as a serious threat, while a loss to Port will put them back among the chasing pack and elevate Port even further in terms if flag front-runners.

Brisbane v Port Adelaide tips

Our AFL betting expert has examined the markets and found some value Lions-Power tips.

Connor Rozee to kick 3 goals or more

The electric power forward is ready to get back to his very best form and should get every opportunity. The Lions are adept at covering the big forwards with the likes of Harris Andrews but can be burnt by the smalls. Rozee fits the bill.

Port Adelaide +0.5 points/match total under 152.5

The weather forecast is not great for Saturday night and the Gabba can be tricky with the slipper ball. The Lions have had extra rest but are coming off a gruelling game against Carlton, while the Power easily accounted for St Kilda at home last Sunday.

Brisbane Lions v Port Power prediction 1/5

The loss of Lachie Neale, who garnered three Brownlow votes in the win against the Power last season, is a huge blow to the Lions engine room. He is their master accumulator. A lot of responsibility will fall to Hugh McCluggage and Dayne Zorko to provide drive. Neale’s loss is somewhat tempered by Boak’s absence. This is a an opportunity for one or more of the second-tier mids to step up. There should not be a lot in this contest but for our money the Power just have the better depth and more potent half-forward set-up. Our final Brisbane v Port Adelaide prediction? Power by 13 points.
