Geelong v Collingwood betting tips, prediction & odds; AFL semi-final preview
Welcome to our Geelong v Collingwood betting tips, prediction and odds update for their semi-final at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday night.
The winner of this semi-final will advance to the preliminary finals to play Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday, October 17.
The Cats and Magpies have built up a wonderful rivalry over the past decade and more, and there are so many story lines heading into this match. Can the Cats avoid another inglorious finals exit? Is it the last game for Geelong great Gary Ablett jr? Was the Magpies’ shock win last week against the Eagles in Perth a flash in the pan?
Collingwood have won the past two meeting between these teams, including a 10-point success in a qualifying final last year in a low-scoring slog. When the teams met earlier this year in Perth, the Magpies again had the answers, holding the Cats to five goals as they won by 22 points.
This clash is in another unfamiliar setting at the Gabba, though both teams have played well there this year at times with most games shifted to north-east Queensland.
The Magpies surprised many as they jumped the Eagles early at Optus Stadium last weekend and held on for deserved one-point win. Big forward Mason Cox was back to his best with three goals in the first quarter and the American looms as a key to this match again, though the dew in night matches at the Gabba has made things difficult for marking at times.
Geelong are coming off a fighting loss to Port Adelaide in Adelaide that again raised questions about their ability to perform in finals; their finals record since their 2011 premiership is poor under Chris Scott.
The Magpies have stuck with the same 22 that beat the Eagles, with back-up ruckman Darcy Cameron retaining his place after being a surprise inclusion last weekend.
Geelong have made just one change at the selection table, with Sam Simpson coming in for surprise omission Tom Atkins. Geelong’s talisman Joel Selwood is expected to play despite undergoing finger surgery for an injury suffered against the Power.

Geelong v Collingwood tips
Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Cats v Magpies tips for Saturday night’s game.
Collingwood +6.5 points/match total over 111.5
This doubles option is paying $3.50 with leading bookie PlayUp. The last couple of matches between these teams have been low-scoring but if the Magpies employ the far more expansive style they did against West Coast, the score should be higher, for and against.
Tri-Bet: either teams under 15.5 points
This option is paying $2.20. We expect a tight contest and would be surprised to see a blow-out result in either team’s favour. They both understand how the other team plays. Throw in the pressure of a sudden death final and it’s easy to see a match going down to the wire.
Geelong Cats v Collingwood Magpies prediction 10/10/2020
This is a match to savour and it’s difficult to work out which way it’s going to go. In these semi-finals it’s easy to side with the team that has won the week before in an elimination final against the the team that has lot a qualifying final. But in this case Geelong did little wrong in losing to red-hot Port Adelaide on their home turf. They deserve to be slight favourites. Collingwood played courageously last weekend and have again gone with an extra tall. Whether that works at the potentially slippery Gabba remains to bee seen. The weather has really warmed up in Brisbane in the past fortnight so the dew may not be as big a problem. Regardless we see this match as going down to the wire. Our final Geelong v Collingwood tips? The Magpies by four points.
