This clash pits 16th against third and looms as a one-sided affair, but there were positive signs for the Magpies in their latest outing against Port Adelaide.
The Cats pummelled Collingwood to the tune of 68 points in last year’s semi-finals, but both of these teams have significant personnel changes since that game and little can be read into it.
Geelong is priced at $1.25 to win this contest after rattling off three successive victories, while the Magpies’ odds have ballooned out to $4, with punters abandoning them in droves after a 2-8 start to 2021.
Collingwood has suffered another injury blow with young forward Beau McCreery (calf) pulling up sore from the Power loss. They are also sweating on the availability of Tyler Brown (shoulder) and Josh Thomas (ankle) with both nursing injuries.
Geelong, which will again miss star Patrick Dangerfield, will be without Mitch Duncan under the AFL’s concussion protocols, while Cam Guthrie (shoulder) is in some doubt and might be rested against a weaker team like the Magpies.

Collingwood has improved greatly since Beau McCreery added his forward pressure to their mix, with it seemingly improving their ability to curtail ball-winning defenders. With McReery out through injury and Brown and Thomas in doubt, it could allow Cats gun Tom Stewart to become a weapon. He is offering some nice value at $1.83 with Unibet to gather over 25 possessions.
Geelong to win 1-24 in margin betting
It is hard to see the Cats losing this one against Collingwood, but they will struggle to blow the Magpies away without several of their midfield stars. We think there is value in taking the Cats to win with a rather narrow margin of 1-24 points. Despite a lack of wins, the young Magpies have rarely dropped the bundle and should remain competitive.
Brodie Grundy over 100 Fantasy Points
Grundy played his best game for the season against Port Adelaide with the ferocious effort of past seasons returning. Grundy is likely to confront Mark Blicavs and Esava Ratugolea against the Cats and will win the majority of the hitouts, which will put him around the mark to score 100 fantasy points. If he kicks a goal, like he has done several times in recent games, he’s almost there.

Geelong is doing enough to stay around the top four without playing their best footy consistently and they should have too much ammo for the Magpies. Collingwood has enough talent to match Geelong around the ground, but they don’t have Jeremy Cameron and Tom Hawkins, which is enough for us to stick with the favourites.
