Melbourne v Brisbane tips & Prediction; Round 8 AFL betting preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our Melbourne v Brisbane Lions betting tips and prediction for their clash at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.

Melbourne has defeated Gold Coast and Hawthorn in successive weeks, but the red-hot second-placed Lions will prove a much sterner test, on what is predicted to be a wet Sunday on the Gold Coast.

Brisbane have an opportunity to solidify themselves in the top four with a victory, after laying claim to being the AFL Premiership favourites, with impressive victories over Port Adelaide and GWS in the last month. Brisbane star Lachie Neale has been backed off the map into $2.75 to win the Brownlow Medal.

The bookies have installed the Brisbane Lions at $1.55 to defeat Melbourne, who have been priced at $2.45, which we think is about right for this contest. The line has been set at 9.5 points for the clash.

The Demons have made just one change to the line-up, recalling out-of-favour former captain Nathan Jones from the wilderness, for the injured Aaron VandenBerg. Remarkably high-priced recruit Adam Tomlinson and forward Tom McDonald are among the emergencies.

The Lions have suffered a tremendous blow on the injury front, with ruckman Stefan Martin set for an extended stint on the sidelines, with the athletic Archie Smith, who is the son of former NBA and NBL player Andre Moore, set to be given first shot at the no.1 ruck slot. His first task will be quell the AFL’s best tap ruckman Max Gawn.

Melbourne v Brisbane tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several value Demons v Lions tips for Sunday’s game.

Total score over/under 124.5

Our first Demons vs Lions tip is to take the unders in the over/under total game points market. We think this game is destined to be a low-scoring slog in the wet. The 124.5 is very generous and we just can’t see enough scoring to to get near this, judging on this year’s formline. Take this bet at Unibet.com.au, paying $1.88. This is a great leg for your multibets.

Cam Rayner to score 2+ goals

The 2017 no.1 draft pick is beginning to show his undoubted potential, having kicked two or more goals in each of the Lions’ last three games. With the weather set to be wet, we can’t see the big guys kicking bags, which means the bulk of the scoring could be left to the smalls such as Rayner and Charlie Cameron. Rayner is paying $6 to score 2+ goals, while Cameron is paying $3.50 to score 3+.

Melbourne Demons v Brisbane Lions prediction 26/7/2020

We are tipping this game to be low-scoring and not aesthetically pleasing, which could suit the Demons, who have several tough scrapper types like Jack Viney, James Harmes and Clayton Oliver. Couple these in-and-under types with a dominant ruckman, against an inexperienced ruck opponent and we think this game is going to be a lot closer than the odds would suggest. We’re looking to options such as tribets, which essentially allows you to wager on either team winning by under a certain amount, or steer clear of the head to head markets altogether. Our final Brisbane v Melbourne prediction? Lions by 1 point.
