Melbourne v Geelong betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL rd 4 preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

MELBOURNE have a perfect opportunity to stamp themselves as finals contenders when they host Geelong at the MCG on Sunday afternoon. Our AFL expert has cast his eye over the Melbourne v Geelong betting and found some potentially lucrative tips and given an educated prediction.

The Demons’ form-line is hard to read given they did not play last weekend because of Essendon player Conor McKenna testing positive to COVID-19 and their match being postponed. The week previously the Demons were lucky to hold off a fast-finishing Carlton to win by a solitary point.

The Cats are looking to rebound from a two-point loss to Carlton, a game in which they finished strongly after the Blues jumped them early. The Geelong midfield was soundly beaten by the Blues, and they face an even sterner test against the Demons, who are given silver service from captain Max Gawn in the ruck.

Surprisingly the Cats are hot favourites with AFL betting sites, having been installed $1.54 favourites to defeat the Demons ($2.50), despite the match being in Melbourne.

The Cats will also have to combat Gawn without the injured Rhys Stanley with Darcy Fort called into the line-up to lead the ruck division. Harry Taylor and Quinton Narkle have both been dropped with Brandan Parfitt and Jake Kolodjashnij earning recalls.

The Demons have also swung the axe dropping Alex Neal-Bullen, Harley Bennell, Luke Jackson, Nathan Jones and Neville Jetta with Aaron VandenBerg, Jay Lockhart, Kysaiah Pickett, Michael Hibberd and Mitch Hannan coming into the team that defeated Carlton a fortnight ago.

Below we have highlighted our free Melbourne v Geelong tips and given our winner prediction, ahead of Sunday’s AFL Round 4 clash from the MCG.

Demons v Cats tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several value Demons v Cats tips for Sunday’s game.

Jayden Hunt to score 3 or more goals at $14

Melbourne speedster Jayden Hunt has been playing forward this season and has been kicking a few goals. Casting our eye over the Geelong backline we don’t see a logical match-up and the $14 on Hunt kicking three or more goals is exceptional value. You can place this bet at on match day.

Either team to win by 15 points or less at $2.40 (Tri bet)

This game is promising to be close and we can’t see either team winning by a big margin. Several of the top AFL betting sites have a market available at around the $2.40 quote, where you can bet on either team to win by under 15 points. This bet is paying $2.40 with Unibet Australia.

Melbourne v Geelong prediction

Remarkably Geelong are a short-priced favourite to win this game, even after being beaten by cellar-dweller Carlton. We think the match is destined to be a lot closer than the bookies expect which has us leaning towards the underdogs. In fact we think the Demons’ talented (but often misfiring) forward line could be the difference between the two teams, with the Cats’ attack struggling in recent weeks. If only Geelong had another Dangerfield. Our final Melbourne v Geelong betting prediction? The Demons by 11 points.
