But the Raiders-Storm holds the most interest, with the Raiders fighting to save their season and the Storm flying high in search of another title.

Melbourne won the only two meetings between these teams last season, 20-14 in round nine in Canberra and then 30-10 when they met in the finals. The Storm scored three tries in the first 10 minutes of the latter match to break Canberra hearts and led 24-6 at half-time.

The bad news for Canberra coach Ricky Stuart is that on top of their injury woes, the have lost three top-liners via the judiciary for this game. That is not good news when playing a professional team like the Storm who make you pay for the slightest misread in defence.

Raiders v Storm team news for round 11

The already struggling Raiders have been dealt a hammer blow with prop Josh Papalii, outstanding five-eighth Jack Wighton and hooker Josh Hodgson all suspended after a fighting win against the bottom team Bulldogs, when Canberra played a man down for the second half.

There was some good news with Ryan Sutton making a quicker-than-expected recovery from an elbow injury and being named on the bench but coach Ricky Stuart has been forced into a full-scale reshuffle,.

Veteran Sam Williams is the new five-eighth in place of Wighton, while young halfback Brad Schneider starts on the pine in his NRL debut. Hudson Young comes into the starting side at lock and allows Dunamis Lui  to move from the 13 to the front row.

Melbourne have injury issues of their own with star fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen (head knock) ruled out, but they have an able replacement in Broncos recruiting target Nicho Hynes.

Chris Lewis replace Hynes at five-eighth, with prop Aaron Pene also joining the 17 at the expense of Riley Jacks.

Raiders v Storm free betting tips

Our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Canberra-Melbourne tips for Saturday night’s game.

Storm -12.5/match total under 44.5 points

We expect the Storm to win and win well, though the icy weather won’t be conducive to a high-scoring contest. We expect the Raiders will be brave enough in defence to keep the match from becoming a blowout.

Josh Addo-Carr to score 2+ tries

When you are hot you are hot, and they don’t come any hotter than the Fox, who has scored an incredible nine tries in his past two matches. Two more should not be a problem against the Raiders..

Canberra Raiders v Melbourne Storm prediction 22-5-2021

This was a match that was marked in our calendar as one to savour but it has lost a lot of its gloss thanks to Canberra’s dismal form and the suspension of so many star players. It is a chance for the Raiders to draw a line in the sand and show they have real depth in their squad. Unfortunately they play a team that just keeps on keeping on. The Storm to win comfortably. Our Raiders v Storm prediction: Melbourne Storm to win by 16 points.
