SportingBet South Africa review

One of the more prominent sports betting companies in South Africa, SportingBet has an outstanding record among both sports and racing bettors. We decided to look a little deeper under the hood and see what makes Sportingbet.co.za tick. If there are any aspects you feel we have missed in our Sportingbet South Africa review feel free to drop us a line in the comments box below.

Licensed by the Western Cape Government, Sportingbet.co.za provides wagering services to both South Africans and other neighbouring countries, with some of the features of the website including sports betting, live betting, horse racing wagering and even some unique betting games. This Sportingbet review will cover all of these aspects plus other parts of the website such as the bonus offers and promotions and customer service.

Sportingbet.co.za bonus offers and promotions

SportingBet South Africa login

Sportingbet has some outstanding bonus offers for new customers, which is no surprise given the competitive nature of the South African sports betting industry.

The new customer bonus at Sportingbet in 2019 is:

SportingBet ZA Bonus offer: 100% bonus up to the value of R2000. (3x wagering requirement, Min odds 1.5)

After you have signed up at Sportingbet South Africa you will receive the option to take a 100% deposit bonus up to the value of R2000, but just be aware it does have wagering requirements attached to it.

Betting markets at Sporting Bet South Africa

As you would expect with such a big betting company, Sportingbet has an outstanding array of betting markets, including some you would only find at a bookie licensed in South Africa. Football, rugby, cricket, horse racing and tennis are all adequately catered for.

The football section is extensive with 1000s of markets, including live betting, available at any one time. As a general rule you will navigate to the football section via the top or left menus. Once you have selected it the left panel will change leaving you with all of the various soccer leagues from around the world. Like all sports listed you can select the game and expand the betting options you have at your fingertips.

Another huge positive about the functionality of the betting at SportingBet is that once you have selected your bets they are automatically placed into a bet slip, where you can then place them as single wagers or multi bet them up.

Horse racing markets

Sportingbet has racing markets and odds available for South African racing, with these markets taking pride of place. The only other markets that were available in September of 2019 were United Kingdom and Ireland racing. The lack of Australian and Hong Kong markets is a blow for serious horse racing punters, with these races some of the most competitive in the world.

Sportingbet Casino (Bet Games)

SportingBet has some casino-style “bet games” that players can play inside their account, with it as simple as visiting the tab at the top of the website. Inside you will find draw-based games where you can bet on the outcomes. To be honest the team at the WGL is not a big fan of these type of games; we feel like the odds are just not in the player’s favour, but we will run you through what is available.

Wheel live: You will see a live feed of an attractive woman spinning a wheel. Much like Big Wheel that you find in a casino, or even bearing a resemblance to roulette, largely through the fact you can place bets on numbers, colours and even/odd markets.

Lucky 7 Live: Another lotto-style draw game where you bet on things such as what numbers will be drawn, black and yellow balls totals, total sum of balls and many more things.

Sportingbet also has Lucky 6 and Lucky 5 which are very similar to Lucky 7 but are variations. These bet games are a hot space in South African gambling in 2019, with the country divided over whether they should be legal. We’ll let you be the judge on this one.

Sportingbet Mobile review

SportingBet has an outstanding mobile site, which has the full functionality of the main desktop site, which includes access to live betting, the bet games and every betting market that you can think of.

Like all betting products in 2019, SportingBet ZA’s mobile website is first-rate, but we have found that some deposit options are restricted on mobile but this is probably the only real downfall.

Sportingbet Android App

The SportingBet Android App is not in the Google Play store but is available to download directly from their website, but you must have registered a new account before you can download it. The product is much like the mobile website, but will chew through less data than loading the website.

Sportingbet iOS App

You can download the Sportingbet iOS app from the Apple App store directly, however, opening an account first can provide you with the first deposit bonus. The iOS app is much like the Sportingbet mobile website.

SportingBet rewards program

SportingBet Rewards Club gives you one point for each R10 that you spend at the website. You will also earn more points if you place multi bets, with the rewards points multiplied by the legs. When you have accumulated a minimum amount of weekly points they will be swapped for a free bet, worth anything from R10 to R16000.

The Sportingbet South Africa Rewards Club has come under fire in the past, but we think it is well worth your time.

NB: You do need to opt in for the SportingBet Rewards Program if you wish to take part.

SportingBet deposits

Being a South African-licensed and -facing website means SportingBet caters extensively to this market when it comes to its banking options. Punters can deposit in many different ways including via credit and debit cards — which are the most popular — and other options like web wallets. As of September 2019 SportingBet South Africa had the following deposit options available:

  • ecoPayz
  • MasterCard
  • Visa
  • Neteller
  • Skrill
  • Fast Bank Transfer
  • Cashing out at Sportingbet

SportingBet has several different ways you can cash money out of your betting account, with these including some of the deposit options in the list above. The only thing you need to keep at the forefront of your mind is that if you want to withdraw with an option such as Neteller, you must also have deposited with this method. This is a standard security measure in the online gambling industry.

As a general rule withdrawing money from your SportingBet South Africa account will take around 2-4 days, although we have heard reports of some punters cashing out overnight with Neteller and Skrill.

    SportingBet customer service

SportingBet has a detailed help section where you can find answers to commonly asked questions. In this section you will find information like betting rules and help with things such as cashing out.

In the help section you will also find a contact us form, which is how you email the company. We gave it a quick test run and had a reply within 24 hours. If we’re being critical we would much prefer to see a phone number that we could call to get some answers about any questions.

    SportingBet licence and head office

SportingBet has a licence from the Western Cape Government (Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board), which is one of the most respected online betting licences a bookie can hold in South Africa. SportingBet also has the backing of the National Gambling Board of South Africa (NGA) and also works in conjunction with the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation.

    Licence:

NetBet (Pty) Ltd (2012/187650/07) trades as Sportingbet in South Africa.

    Head office:

    To be confirmed.

    SportingBet.co.za news and history

SportingBet South Africa has been in operation since 2010 after GreatOdds.co.za was rebranded, which was massive in the industry at the time given they were the biggest bookie operating in this market.

The company was originally founded in 1998 and was listed on the London Stock Exchange, but acquisitions and constant change in the industry mean the South African branch was sold to NetBet, a well-known gambling company.

This section will keep you abreast of the latest news and major events happening across the SportingBet brand in South Africa.

    Sportingbet review verdict

There is a reason Sportingbet is one of the biggest brands in South African sports betting and it’s that it has built up trust and a good reputation. Sportingbet ZA has some nice sign-up bonus offers for new customers, while it also has some cool ongoing promotions surrounding both horse racing and major sports events around the world. If we haven’t made it clear in our Sportingbet review we fully endorse this online wagering company as a safe and reliable betting option for South Africa.
