Both of these teams have dropped just one game this season, to sit two games clear in first and second on the ladder, with this a potential preview of a blockbuster final later in the year.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 111-point demolition of St Kilda, but did suffer a massive blow, with star recruit Adam Treloar’s injury woes continuing at his new club after suffering a three-month ankle injury.
Melbourne put in a below-par performance against Adelaide last outing to go down by a point, punctuated by the Crows’ ability to avoid the Demons’ intercepting defenders.
The Bulldogs have been installed a $1.67 favourite to win with Australian bookmakers, while Melbourne are priced as $2.23 outsiders. The $2 line at TopSport has been set at 6.5 points for this clash.
Treloar’s injury adds to a growing toll at the Bulldogs which includes prime mover Josh Dunkley (knee), Easton Wood (hamstring) and ruckman Tim English (concussion), although the latter may return to confront Melbourne ruck ace Max Gawn.
Melbourne will again be without Jack Viney after he suffered a setback to an injured toe, but Christian Salem (soreness) and former captain Nathan Jones (hamstring) could be recalled.

There are no two bigger names than Marcus Bontempelli and Christian Petracca in the AFL at the moment, with the pair amongst the top chances for the Brownlow Medal. We really like the idea of a same-game multi featuring the pair of them to both score over 100 Super Coach points. This should be paying around $4.50 later in the week.

The Western Bulldogs midfield is beginning to look a little frail with Treloar, Dunkley and ruckmen Tim English and Stef Martin out injured. While this is an area they can cover, we will get a much better idea of how they are really coping without the midfield guns against a Dees team that will be hell-bent on bouncing back after a horrible showing against the Crows. Melbourne will attempt to cash in on Gawn’s ruck dominance in this one, while the ongoing puzzle of their best forward setup will again be on display.
