  • No late changes
  • Western Bulldogs have been crunched into $1.74 favourite, after starting outsiders
  • Tim English will play for the Dogs

Welcome to our Western Bulldogs v Melbourne betting tips, prediction and odds analysis for their AFL Round 13 clash at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

Arguably the match of the round, in-form Melbourne are in eighth spot and the Western Bulldogs are in 10th. Both are on 24 points and a win is important to their finals chances, but for the Dogs it is crucial, with Melbourne having played one less game. A loss here and the Dogs will potentially slip two games behind the Demons.

Melbourne blitzed Collingwood last Saturday in their latest game, as they cashed in on a undermanned opponent. They were impressive and their multi-pronged forward line and better ball use through the midfield were highlights.

The Bulldogs thrashed a hapless Adelaide on Sunday with the game marking the return of Lachie Hunter after an extended absence. He did not disappoint with 29 touches and looked to be the extra quality ball user the Dogs had been missing. The form of Bailey Smith (37 touches) should also have punters on high alert.

Melbourne are the favourites in the betting with Unibet Australia pricing them at $1.74 and the Western Bulldogs are outsiders at $2.10. The $1.90 line has been set at a narrow 4.5.

The Demons have a relatively injury-free list in comparison to other clubs with just Max Gawn and Alex Neal-Bullen missing from their best line-up. Gawn is listed as a test but the Demons will take no chances with him and Neal-Bullen still has two matches to serve on his suspension.

The Dogs are sweating on the fitness of several key players, with ruckman Tim English and Jason Johannisen both in doubt with ankle injuries. High-flying Hayden Crozier has a slight toe complaint but is expected to be passed fit and Matt Suckling and Lin Jong look to be at least another week away.

Western Bullogs v Melbourne tips

Here are our Bulldogs v Demons tips for Saturday’s game.

Match Winner and Total Points 132.5

Melbourne have won two out of the past three clashes between the two clubs, but the Bulldogs won the last encounter in round 17 last season. At this stage we’re leaning towards taking the Bulldogs to win and the total points scored in the match to be under 132.5. This doubles bet is paying $4.10 at Unibet which offers some nice value.

Josh Dunkley to score 2+ goals

Western Bulldogs’ Josh Dunkley could again be the guy who spends less time in their midfield when everyone is fit, and if the game against the Crows was any indication this could be true. The prolific Dunkley gathered only 17 disposals and spent large chunks of the game up forward, booting one goal. He is paying a juicy $8.50 to kick two or more against the Demons.

Western Bulldogs v Melbourne Demons prediction 22/8/2020

Melbourne deserve to be the favourites in this clash and are firming as a finals participant after a much-improved run of form. The Bulldogs look to be much more formidable with Hunter back in the midfield and it allows Marcus Bontempelli to spend more time forward. We have priced the Melbourne v Western Bulldogs betting at about even money, although the bookies have the Dees as a pretty warm favourite. This has us leaning towards taking the Bulldogs at $2.10 but we might reassess closer to game day when the teams are released. Our final Western Bulldogs v Melbourne prediction? Dogs by 7 points.
