Adelaide Crows v Richmond Tigers betting tips, prediction & odds; AFL round 18 preview

Welcome to our Adelaide v Richmond betting tips, prediction and odds analysis ahead of their AFL round-18 clash at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

The Crows have stunned the AFL by rattling off three successive wins after being winless after 14 rounds under new coach Matthew Nicks.

But they face a monumental task against Richmond, who are clicking into finals mode nicely and must win to secure their top-four position.

Just weeks ago, the betting for this contest would have been all one-way traffic, but bookies are opting to keep the Crows a little safer after their run of form. Adelaide are paying $4.50 to win and Richmond are at $1.24. The $1.90 line has been set at 21.5 points.

Richmond last played on Friday, September 11, when they schooled Geelong to the tune of 26 points.

But they did suffer several key injuries with Tom Lynch suffering a hamstring strain and facing a race against time to be fit for finals. No.1 ruckman Ivan Soldo is out of the campaign and will undergo a knee reconstruction. The Tigers also left out Oleg Markov (omitted) and the injured Shai Bolton for the match against the Crows.

Richmond brought in ruck option Mabior Chol, and a trio of experienced stars in defender David Astbury, forward Josh Caddy and midfielder Shane Edwards.

The Crows last played on Sunday when they stunned Carlton by 16 points, but did suffer an injury blow with important midfielder Rory Sloane (hamstring) in doubt for this week.

Sloane was named to start however, with Billy Frampton, Bryce Gibbs, who had his farewell match against old club Carlton last weekend, and Jordon Butts all dropped.

Tall defender Daniel Talia comes in for his 200th match, along with veteran teammates David Mackay and Taylor Walker.

Adelaide v Richmond tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Crows v Tigers tips for Saturday’s game.

Dustin Martin to kick 3+ goals

Richmond are going to have to get creative to cover the tremendous impact that Tom Lynch has on games. They know that any point they have a “get out” kick to Lynch long. We think Damien Hardwick is going to be forced to play Martin forward for the majority of matches, at least until Lynch is back or they will not be able to score enough goals. Luckily for the Tigers, Dusty is good enough to do anything. He is paying $6 to kick 3+ goals with Unibet.

Margin betting tip

Adelaide will be hell-bent on playing well in their final match for 2020 and while it’s possible they will have mentally checked out, we don’t think so. The Tigers to win by 1-39 points is paying $1.72 with PlayUp and is probably a smart leg for your multis. Without Lynch, the Tigers’ scoring problems could be exacerbated.

Adelaide to lead at quarter-time and lose

Various AFL bookies are offering this market and we think it’s not a bad Adelaide v Richmond tip. The Crows are in form and could get an early jump on the Tigers. We ultimately think Richmond will win this game, but you could do worse than have a crack at this market, with it paying around the $4.50 quote.

Adelaide v Richmond prediction 19/9/2020

Richmond are the team to beat for the AFL premiership, with their style of play perfectly suited to high-intensity matches. They will know just how important it is to lock away their double chance and we don’t expect them to slip up against the resurgent Adelaide. We do however expect the Crows to put up a good fight and move into the off-season with some good vibes, after a horrible beginning to the Nicks reign. Our final Adelaide v Richmond prediction? Tigers by 22 points.
