The Blues v Hawks clash is part of a double-header being played on Friday night, with the later game featuring Brisbane and Essendon.
The Blues have won three out of their last five games and are showing signs of improvement under first-year coach David Teague, who has them playing a much more exciting brand of football this year.
Carlton is coming off a seven-point victory over the gallant North Melbourne, with the likes of former captain Marc Murphy, Sam Walsh, Matthew Kennedy and Will Setterfield excelling on a day when skipper Patrick Cripps had a rare off day.
The Hawks have slumped to 15th on the AFL ladder and have lost their last four games, as Alastair Clarkson attempts to rebuild his team on the run. Worryingly for the Hawks, they have conceded the second most points out of any team this year, while they have also struggled in attack.

Last round the Hawks were humbled by fellow struggler Sydney to the tune of seven points, although they were better than the previous week when Melbourne thrashed them by 43 points.
For the first time in a long time Carlton will head into a clash with Hawthorn as favourite, with most AFL betting sites pricing them around the $1.50 quote, while the Hawks are outsiders at $2.60.
The Blues will be forced to make at least one change with Mitch McGovern expected to miss at least a fortnight with a hamstring injury, while Callum Moore could find himself in the gun after gathering just two disposals against the Roos. Harry McKay will face a fitness test and could be a like-for-like replacement for McGovern.

While we think the Blues will win this by a few goals, we predict it is likely to be a low-scoring slog, with both teams missing key players from their forward line. While we’re well aware that the Blues are one of the highest scoring teams in the comp, keep this in mind, Charlie Curnow is missing, Harry McKay is unlikely to return from a knee complaint, while McGovern is now out of the team that beat the Roos. This is a seismic shift in how they will have to deliver the ball forward and should result in less goals than we have seen. Hawthorn on the other hand has struggled to score all year and will be missing recruit Jon Patton.

Carlton look to have a lot more to play for than Hawthorn, who we suspect might be gearing their games more towards 2021 than the present. Carlton has a lot more run on the outside than the aging Hawks, while their forward setup, even without McGovern should be strong enough to get the job done against Hawthorn.
