Collingwood v Brisbane betting tips & prediction; AFL round 3 preview 2021

Welcome to our Collingwood v Brisbane betting tips, prediction and odds analysis ahead of their AFL round 3 clash at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night.

The Magpies have shortened dramatically in the betting after the AFL was forced to switch the game from the Gabba to Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, following the latest Covid-19 cases in Queensland.

Collingwood had been as long as $2.20, but have been backed into $1.80 favourite, despite their mediocre form in recent times at the indoor stadium. The Magpies are looking to send their ledger 2-1 after levelling it with a strong win over arch rival Carlton last Thursday.

The Lions have drifted out to $2.05 to defeat Collingwood and desperately need to win after slumping to 0-2 after two rounds, with an unexpected and potentially lengthy stay in Victoria on the cards.

Collingwood have been forced into one change with important midfielder-forward Jamie Elliott set to miss up to three months, after suffering a broken leg in the Magpies’ win over Carlton. Oliver Henry and medical sub Trey Ruscoe will both come into contention, although we think Levi Greenwood could earn a call-up after Geelong successfully tagged Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale in their one-point win over the Lions.

Brisbane, which has already lost no.1 draft pick Cam Rayner for the season, will be sweating on the fitness of ball-winer Jarrod Berry (hamstring) and ruckman Oscar McInerney (ankle) with the pair due to undergo fitness tests on Wednesday. McInerney in-particular will be important with the Magpies’ Brodie Grundy seemingly back in form after dominating Carlton.

Collingwood Magpies vs Brisbane Lions tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the markets and found some free Collingwood v Brisbane tips and value bets.

Taylor Adams to get 30+ possessions

Collingwood has thrown Jack Crisp into the midfield with great success in recent weeks and we think this will continue against the Lions. If the Pies opt to leave Greenwood out, Crisp may be given the task of quelling Neale, which could slow his possession rate. This has us leaning towards Taylor Adams to top the Magpies’ possessions, with teams often leaving him on his own, because of his perceived poor kicking skills. Check the odds on Adams getting 30+ touches at the top bookmakers in Australia.

Collingwood to cover -2.5 line

The vibes are positive coming out of the Magpies’ camp after the win over Carlton and we think this, coupled with the Lions being forced out of Queensland, will prove decisive. Expect the Magpies’ midfield to be key in them defeating the Lions. It almost feels like if Neale does not fire the Lions cannot win this. Collingwood is paying $1.90 to win by more than 2.5 points.

Charlie Cameron to kick 2+ goals

Brisbane Lions livewire Charlie Cameron has not been at his best so far in 2021, but if there is one team that can spark a small forward it is the Magpies. Cameron at his best is exciting and a goal-kicker, which the Lions are going to need against this staunch backline. Cameron is paying $1.58 to kick 2+ goals, which looks a strong possibility and is a good leg for your same game multis.

Brisbane v Collingwood prediction 1/4/2021

Collingwood looks to have too many tricks in Melbourne against Brisbane, who seem to be struggling for luck at the moment. The Lions also have several players, including Neale, out of form which has led to low possession counts for their midfield — which you just can’t afford against a prolific Magpies team. The Magpies’ backline should be able to contain Joe Daniher, while Jordan De Goey and Mason Cox should trouble Harris Andrews and friends. Our final Brisbane v Collingwood prediction? Magpies by 19 points.
