Essendon v GWS betting tips, prediction and odds upudate; AFL Rd 10 Preview

Welcome to our Essendon v GWS betting tips and prediction for their AFL round 10 clash being played at Metricon Stadium on Friday night.

The Bombers, who still have a game in-hand because of the COVID blip earlier in the season, slipped outside the top eight after their terrible loss to the Brisbane Lions last round.

GWS accounted for the Gold Coast last start, in what was a hard-fought contest, while the week previously they defeated Richmond in their best win for the year that catapulted them into seventh position.

Essendon last played on Friday night a week ago, while the Giants played on Sunday night, which means the Bombers had two extra nights rest which could play a factor in this game.

AFL bookmakers have installed the Giants a heavy favourite, pricing them at $1.39 while the Bombers’ odds of $3 offers some great value. The $1.90 line has been set at 14.5 which looks about right given current form.

There is expected to be heavy rain on the Gold Coast on Friday night, which is likely to see these two teams slog it out in a low-scoring contest.

We are weary however of jumping on the unders in the over/under betting market in this one, with leading bookie Sportsbet setting the mark at 103.5. It’s probably worth keeping an eye on the weather and if the expected rain does not hit before the game, take the overs.

The Giants suffered a huge injury blow in the opening quarter of their clash against the Suns when Toby Greene trotted off with a hamstring injury, with the lively star expected to miss at least three weeks. Callan Ward and Shane Mumford are also back for the Giants and youngster and Xavier O’Hallaran will play his first game.

The Bombers have recalled Irishman Conor McKenzie after he missed their clash against the Lions citing homesickness. Kyle Langford,Matt Guelfi and Shaun McKernan have also been included.

Essendon v GWS tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds for some value and found several value Hawks v Kangaroos tips for Sunday’s game.

Bombers to win the second half

We are tipping Essendon to outscore the Giants in the second half of this game, with their extra few days rest. We think the Giants have played two tough games in a row and are due a downer, while the Bombers are likely to hit back hard after their disappointing loss to the Lions a week ago. This market is available at top Aussie bookmaker Unibet and is paying $2.20.

Tim Taranto to kick 2+ goals

There is potential for rain so the smaller guys could be the answer in the goal-scorer betting. This tip is a throw at the stumps, but with Toby Greene out of the Giants line-up, Leon Cameron might turn to the classy Tim Taranto to add some class closer to goal. He is paying $21 to kick 3+ goals, while the $5.50 for two goals might be a more realistic bet.

Essendon v GWS prediction 7/8/2020

We think this game is going to be much closer than the odds suggest. This has us leaning towards the juicier odds on offer on the Bombers but we may just steer clear of betting on a winner in this game. One thing to consider is the Giants to lead at half time and the Bombers to win, with this market paying $10.50 at Unibet. Our thinking again the fresher legs of the Bombers could give them the upper-hand in the second half. Our final Essendon v GWS prediction? GWS by four points.
