Fremantle v West Coast betting tips, predictions and odds update; AFL Rd 7 preview

AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

West Coast are unbackable favourites in the betting to win a third successive western derby against Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Sunday. Welcome to our betting tips and free prediction for the Dockers v Eagles round 7 AFL clash.

AFL bookmakers have installed the Eagles around the $1.30 mark, while the Dockers are as long as $3.40 to win their first clash against their cross-town rival since 2015. Making the Dockers’ task even harder is the absence of champion skipper Nat Fyfe, who has succumbed to a hamstring strain.

The Eagles have started to look more like their potent self in recent weeks after a slow start to 2020. Wins over struggling teams Sydney and Adelaide and a return back to Perth this week, after being sent to a Queensland hub because of COVID-19 protocols, have fans in a buoyant mood that their season can turn around.

The Eagles have made just the one change to the team that defeated Adelaide by 33 points, with star midfielder Luke Shuey returning, and youngster Brayden Ainsworth omitted.

Fremantle are coming off arguably their best performance under new coach Justin Longmuir, with a gutsy six-point victory over St Kilda, which came in remarkable circumstances. After being jumped by five goals early, the Dockers led by as much as four goals in the last term, before St Kilda stormed home to level the scores. The Dockers snared a late goal to seal victory, but the win came at a cost with Fyfe playing out the match on one leg, deep in attack.

The Dockers have recalled Brennan Cox for the clash, while they have also handed a debut to exciting youngster Michael Frederick, who is likely to slot on to a wing. The pair replace Fyfe and Hayden Young, who suffered an ankle injury.

While the Fremantle v West Coast betting is one-way traffic for this encounter, look to the players markets for your opportunities, particularly the possessions markets, which will receive a shake-up on both sides with Fyfe’s absence and Shuey returning.

Eagles v Dockers betting tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value West Coast Eagles v Fremantle Dockers tips for Sunday’s game.

James Aish to cash in on Fyfe absence and get 20+ touches

James Aish has been a solid pick-up for the Fremantle team, after receiving limited opportunities in the powerful Collingwood midfield. Last week Aish started the game slowly, seemingly drifting between a wing and half back, before being swung into the midfield in the second half in Fyfe’s absence, with the ball magnet responding with 13 touches, for a game total of 18. We think with Fyfe out of the midfield and the support crew being young, it could be Aish who is given more midfield minutes. He’s paying $7 to gather 25+ possessions, or a more moderate $2.80 to get 20 touches, which we think is a lock.

Liam Ryan to score 2+ goals

West Coast excitement machine Liam Ryan has been a little out of sorts in 2020, but we think he will enjoy the return to Perth, where he has been a menace for teams in recent seasons. Ryan seemed to play further upfield last week, but this might have been because of Shuey’s absence, who has returned this week. Ryan is paying a juicy $3.20 to kick 2+ goals, which we think is good value for a player who has excelled under the bright lights at Optus Stadium before. Plus Ryan let us down a few weeks ago and owes us.

Fremantle v West Coast prediction 19/7/20

West Coast are going to extend their stranglehold over the western derby into a sixth year, with their midfield looking far stronger on paper than that of the rebuilding Dockers. We will be watching the Eagles closely in this one, because they are a big premiership chance despite slipping to $8 in the betting, and you are unlikely to get this price if they reel off a couple of victories in a row on their home ground. Our final West Coast v Fremantle prediction? Eagles by 24 points.
