AFL round 12 odds 2021 - covid fixture update

Welcome to our Hawthorn v Essendon betting tips, prediction and odds update for their AFL round 14 clash at Adelaide Oval on Thursday.

Essendon are sitting in 12th spot on the ladder and Hawthorn are 15th but there is plenty of history between these two old rivals and it should be an entertaining contest.

And to add fuel to the fire, the Bombers are expected to drop a selection bombshell by naming star full-forward Joe Daniher for his first game since round nine last season after groin and calf issues.

Daniher has been taken off the injury list but has not even played a scratch match, but he does provide the forward presence the Bombers have been so desperately missing this season.

Essendon could also regain big man Cale Hooker (calf) and defender Conor McKenna, with the inclusion of Daniher and Hooker giving them a massive aerial boost.

Hawthorn may also get a boost in the defensive department with James Frawley ready to resume after a thumb injury and star forward Jack Gunston also back in the mix.

The Hawks have had a bleak few weeks injury-wise but battled hard last round to lose by just 10 points to top team Port Adelaide in Adelaide.

They are coming off a similar amount of rest to the Bombers, who lost by 12 points to Richmond in Darwin.

The last few encounters between these teams have been tight, with Essendon winning their only encounter in 2019 by 19 points.

Hawthorn v Essendon tips

Our AFL betting expert has scoured the odds and found several value Hawks v Bombers tips for Thursday’s game.

Essendon to win/match total over 122.5 points

This option is paying $3.20 with leading bookie Unibet Australia. With the weather clear, these two teams should play plenty of attacking football. The Hawks are out of finals contention so should play with freedom but Essendon have a shot at the top eight, especially with a game in hand on many rivals

Jack Gunston to kick 2+ goals

Of course, first ensure he makes his return from injury but you always know what you are going to get with Gunston. He started off in Adelaide so knows the ground well and no matter how well or how badly the Hawks are going he is always dangerous up forward.

Hawthorn Hawks v Essendon Bombers prediction 27/8/2020

The Hawks have won only one of their past eight games, but they showed against Port they can step up and make life tough for their opponents no matter who they are playing. The Bombers are not travelling much better with four losses and a draw in their past five games. Both teams are hard hit by injury, but we have a slight leaning to Essendon with a couple of big names coming back into the side this week. The Bombers are not a side to be back with confidence though, so we will be betting small and just watching with great interest if Daniher is back in action. Our final Hawks v Bombers prediction? Essendon by 9 points.
