Germany win 2023 FIBA World Cup

Germany defeated Serbia to win their first ever FIBA World Cup, with the final score 83-77. It was the German’s first major international basketball win, with their previous best being a silver in Indianapolis In 2002. Canada defeated the USA to win bronze, with many questioning Team USA’s commitment, with many of the top players choosing not to make the trip to Asia.

2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup – China

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup is due to be played in China from August 31 until September 15, with the USA short-priced favourites to win a third successive crown. Serbia, Spain, Greece and Australia are also in the mix, according to leading basketball bookies.

2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup

The 2014 edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup was played in Spain and featured the USA and Serbia in the final, with the powerful United States team winning every game they played at the tournament. Remarkably the USA had an average winning margin of 32.5 points up until the final, when they turned it up another gear, defeating Serbia 129-92. Team USA went into the tournament as short-priced favourites to win the tournament, despite missing LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul from their best team.

Universally regarded as one of the most dominant performances at a FIBA Basketball World Cup, the USA’s 2014 team were almost as dominant as the 1992 and 1996 Dream Teams, which won the gold at both Olympics with average winning margins of 43.8 and 31.8 points. The victory also qualified Team USA for the 2016 Olympic Games, where they won gold, defeating Serbia.
