Racing Victoria reschedules key meetings

Racing Victoria has shifted next Tuesday’s Ballarat meeting to Donald, with the industry body saying the Ballarat course proper needs extra recovery time before the club’s next scheduled meeting on April 30.

The transferred April 14 Ballarat card will remain an eight-race meeting, although six races have had distance changes as part of the move.

RV also announced that Mildura’s April 21 meeting will be run at Swan Hill as officials review the short-term calendar amid higher fuel costs and concerns around travel, expenses and field sizes.

The last Ballarat meeting was held on Friday, April 3, when the track hosted Good Friday racing, with the wet morning and then a full card of racing putting strain on the surface.

Victoria has also faced unsettled autumn weather in recent days. Bureau of Meteorology observations at Geelong Racecourse recorded rain on April 6 and 7, while Melbourne’s forecast for April 10-11 points to further showers, strong winds and even possible small hail.
