Malta Gaming Authority 2024 reveals in annual report

Malta Gaming Authority resolved over 3000 player requests for assistance in 2024, highlighting their importance to the regulated online gambling scene. 

The MGA highlighted several other big reveals in their Annual Report and audited Financial Statements, which covers the performance of Malta’s land- based and online gaming sectors during 2024. 

The MGA also revealed they received 1897 player funds reports and carried out 27 data extractions during the year-long period. 

The MGA, which is one of the biggest gambling regulators in Europe, also conducted 40 responsible gambling-themed website checks and issued 27 letters to operators, outlining where they need to improve. 

Highlighting just how broad their work is, the MGA carried out over 9000 inspections on gambling venues that fall under their jurisdiction, with these including  casinos and commercial bingo halls. 

Many of the top International online casinos are licensed in Malta, with many boasting multiple licenses, including Leo Vegas (Leo Vegas review), Jackpot City Casino and Royal Vegas.

MGA received 28 new applications for gambling licences

The Malta Gaming Authority rejected 11 of the 28 applications it received for gaming licenses in 2024. 

The MGA revealed it had done 1200 criminal probity screening checks on authorised persons, persons holding qualifying interest, directors, key persons and any third parties providing funding. 

Additionally the MGA renewed 12 gaming licences that expired during the reporting period. 

MGA dishes out 35 warnings and huge financial penalties

The MGA issued 35 warnings, 25 administrative penalties amounting to €306,250 and reached three regulatory settlements amount to €61,522. 

Two gambling licenses were suspended by the MGA, while eight were cancelled. 

Eligible players can play at MGA online casinos, which are legal in many European and Asian countries.
