Milos Raonic v Prajnesh Gunneswaren predictions, Wimbledon 1st Rd betting preview 2019
Canada’s world no.17 Milos Raonic will start heavy favourite against Indian no.1 Prajnesh Gunneswaran in Wimbledon first-round action on Monday.
The big-serving right-hander says he has overcome injury concerns which forced him to withdraw against countryman Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Stuttgart Open recently.
Last week Raonic was beaten by Feliciano Lopez in the quarter-final at Queens Club, but the betting suggests he will be too strong for Gunneswaran, the world no.94 at Wimbledon.
Raonic has been priced at -2500, meaning you would have to lay down $2500 to win $100, which carries far too much risk for our betting tastes.
If you believe in miracles, Gunneswaran is at +1000 to defeat Raonic, with his only hope, in the first time he has played the Canadian, being that he suffers a recurrence of the injury he suffered in Stuttgart. It’s also worth noting that Raonic had been on an injury-enforced layoff since March this year.
While we think match betting is to be avoided in this one, we do believe there is some nice value to be found in our Milos Raonic v Gunneswaran predictions.
Best bets: Raonic v Gunneswaran
In each of our Wimbledon betting previews, we will highlight a few markets where we think bettors can make some money. Here are our best bets for the Raonic-Gunneswaran first round clash.
Total Match Games prediction
William Hill has set the line for total match games at 31.5, and while over is favourite at -125, we think Raonic might run away with it and keep the total games below 31. This option is paying -110 with WilliamHill.com.
1st Set Scorecast prediction
If you’re looking for something with a bit more value, Raonic is paying +800 to win the first set 6-1. Our logic behind this is we think Gunneswaran might be overawed playing at Wimbledon for the first time and the big-serving Canadian has all the tricks to take advantage of it. You can view all of the 1st Set Scorecast markets at William Hill.
Raonic v Gunneswaran prediction
We wonder if the new breed of Canadian men’s tennis players coming through will push Raonic to the next level in his career. However, we don’t think it will matter in this contest and we’re predicting Raonic to defeat Gunneswaren easily. Steer clear of betting on the match markets in this one.
