Boomers name mixed squad for Asian Cup and UOC basketball

Australia will take a blend of veterans and next generation talent in the upcoming Gold Coast featured game vs the University of Colorado on July 31.

There have not been any betting markets released for the Boomers v UOC clash, and we’re not sure there will be given the exhibition status of the contest, but it should be an outstanding match.

The Boomers, who will be coached by Adam Caporn for the first time, have announced a squad of 14 for the contest at the Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre.

Caporn is a longtime fixture in Australian basketball, having lead the centre of excellence for seven years (2014-21) and spent a stint with NBA team Washington Wizards as an assistant.

Caporn will return to Australia for his first campaign on the sidelines in July and there is an invaluable opportunity to fire momentum into a talented era for the Boomers program with the Asia Cup in Jeddah ahead.

“I couldn’t be more excited to return to Australia and get on the floor with the staff and playing group,” Caporn said.

“The Asia Cup is a critical first step in building our team and system as we integrate new faces across both the roster and coaching staff.

“FIBA preparation windows are extremely short, so we need to hit the ground running from day one of camp. Our departments are already hard at work to ensure we are highly organised and make the most of every minute together.

“We’ll have a good mix of experienced Boomers and players getting their first taste of international tournament play at this level. So, we expect the learning curve to be steep and will embrace the opportunity to also grow as a group.”

Veteran stars Jack White and Xavier Cooks sit at the nucleus and will be integral as leaders for the inbound Boomers group.

White, who is coming off a championship-winning stint with Bayern Munich in Germany’s Bundesliga EuroLeague, said the opportunity to play for Australia was an exciting opportunity.

“I know I can speak on behalf of the entire group when I say it’s always an honour to represent the green and gold,” White said.

“We have an abundance of talent, and I can’t wait to get started with preparation for the upcoming window with the Boomers players and staff.”

Australia kicks of their Asian Cup campaign on August 6 against South Korea, with no betting sites launching markets as of July 3, 2025.
