Anderson into $6 to win Brownlow Medal after Suns upset Pies

Gold Coast Suns captain Noah Anderson has been shaved into $6 to win the Brownlow Medal, following a magnificent display against Collingwood on Friday night. 

Anderson was swiftly moved from $8 to $6 by leading Aussie bookmaker Neds after he gathered 32 disposals and kicked a goal in their six-point victory over the Magpies. 

Suns teammate Matt Rowell was also instrumental in the victory, collecting 32 touches, kicking two goals and laying an incredible 13 tackles, with AFL bookmakers also cutting his odds from $40 into $26 to win the Brownlow. 

Suns coach Damien Hardwick had previously spoken to the AFL umpires department about the treatment of Rowell around the stoppages this year, with clubs putting plenty of attention into the tough midfielder. 

“We spoke to them not particularly about Matt Rowell, but about the a few issues, the ball player being one of them,” he said. 

“I think he got a couple of stoppage free kicks, gave away three though as well. 

“I thought he was outstanding tonight, had a heap of the ball… plenty of tackles and i thought he was wonderful.” 

Brownlow Medal favourite Nick Daicos is at $2.50 after was instrumental in the Magpies storming home, after a below part opening half, which saw his team fail to kick a major.

Hardwick was full of praise for the way his team was able to lift itself of the canvas despite the Magpies, inspired by Josh Daicos, hitting the lead in the final term. 

“We had an incredible first half and they had an incredible second half, and at the end of the day it was a flip of the coin who won,” he said. 

“They’re a great side and they’ve been playing that sort of football where they know how to play catch-up mode, they’ve been doing it for three or four years.”

The Suns are now fifth on the AFL ladder, four point clear of ninth-placed Western Bulldogs, but they face a challenging fortnight with clashes against Adelaide and Brisbane Lions.
