Big Bash League betting 2025

Big Bash League betting is now available at the top Australian bookmakers, with the T20 cricket competition drawing great interest during the summer months. The Hobart Hurricanes are the pre-season favourite to win BBL|15 at $5.50, with Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers (both $6) also attracting attention. Our BBL betting guide will break down everything you need to know, including the best BBL betting sites and bookie apps, how the BBL season is structured, rules, fixture, bet types available, team insights and much more.
Australian BBL betting sites 2025
The Big Bash League is available to bet on at almost all Australian betting sites; it is the premier T20 cricket competition Down Under. The best BBL betting sites include big names such as Ladbrokes, Sportsbet and bet365, although there are upwards of 40 great cricket bookmakers in Australia.
BBL betting sites can be accessed via both computer and mobile, with most boasting responsive websites that will work on any screen size. Most Australians who bet on BBL15 will do so via betting apps, with the most common types being for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets.
While new account incentives are banned at Australian betting sites, once you are a member at a bookie there is nothing stopping you from receiving BBL promotions. In our experience, it pays to be a member at multiple bookmakers.
Funding BBL15 betting sites with AUD currency has never been easier, with payment options including Visa, Mastercard, web wallets, payment processors and even pay-in-person options, such as PayID.
With the Australian betting scene so advanced, you will find there are hundreds of different markets at some bookmakers, on every match of the Big Bash League season. These will include head to head market, handicap bets, top batters, top bowlers and a plethora of futures markets, such as who will be the BBL 15 champion.
Joining an Australian BBL bookmaker is a straight-forward process; it’s simply a matter of choosing a brand and filling in a digital form with your personal details, such as your name, address, telephone number and email address. You will need to verify these details to gain full access to your new account.
Best BBL betting apps 2025
The best Big Bash League betting apps generally come on Android or iOS smartphones and tablets in Australia. Even though Huawei has a presence in Australia, we have not seen any bookmakers with apps available in the AppGallery.
Android BBL betting apps are generally downloaded directly from the Google Play store, although some have the option to download your app directly from the bookmaker themselves (you will need to turn on non-market apps).
Betting apps for Apple smartphones and tablets can be downloaded from the App Store after you have registered an account at your chosen BBL bookmaker. This is the standard way of betting via apps.
For those who don’t want to download an app, cricket betting sites in Australia generally can be accessed on their mobile website, with the exception of some rare cases such as the app-only Dabble bookmaker.
Some of the best betting apps in Australia for the Big Bash League include Sportsbet, bet365, Ladbrokes and PlayUp, with all clearly putting plenty of time into creating functional mobile applications.
BBL15 odds
Australian betting sites have odds available on the outright winner of the Big Bash League well in advance of the tournament. More extensive BBL odds are released as the tournament draws closer.
What is the Big Bash League?
The Big Bash League (BBL) is a professional Twenty20 tournament due to be held in the Australian summer since its inception in 2011. BBL|15 is due to start in December and will conclude in the final week of January 2026.
The Big Bash League has been a huge hit, with fans turning out in massive numbers and punters turning over tens of millions on the many betting options on each match and on season-long wagers.
Eight teams will contest the 2025-26 Big Bash League: Sydney Sixers, Melbourne Renegades, Adelaide Strikers, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Stars, Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes.
New rules for 2025-26 Big Bash League
The main rule-change proposals currently being considered for the upcoming BBL (2025–26 season) include some serious ideas. But this is no surprise given the way that T20 has revolutionised cricket. Cricket Australia has said some rules are designed to make the game more exciting, while others could make it more appealing for players.
In the past the Big Bash League has implemented some twists on T20 cricket, with these including the Power Surge (which exists to this day) and other not so popular ideas such as the Bash Boost and X-Factor, which have gone by the wayside.
Some rules being considered for BBL 2025/2026 season include:
1. Designated Batter (or “designated hitter”)
- Teams could nominate a 12th player to bat only, with a specialist fielder taking their place on the field.
- The idea is to reduce fatigue for top-tier batters and make BBL more appealing to high‑profile domestic and international players, encouraging them to focus purely on batting
2. Double‑Play Run‑Outs
- A catch from “double plays” in baseball: if both batters are out of their crease and the fielding team can break the bails at both ends on one delivery, both batters would be out.
- Aims to discourage batters from backing up too far and introduce high‑stakes drama.
3. Reduced End‑Changes / 12‑Ball Blocks
- Bowling teams could deliver 12 consecutive balls from one end (two overs back‑to‑back) before switching.
- Captains could also allow the same bowler to bowl that full 12‑ball block (up to 24 balls per match still apply).
- Expected to speed up play, reduce player fatigue, and add strategic nuance.
4. Maidens: More Reward or Risk
Proposals include:
- Rewarding bowlers who bowl a maiden (e.g., earn a free “fifth over”).
- Punishing batters who face six consecutive dot balls (possibly even being given out).
Cricket Australia has indicated the above rules are in consideration for the BBL15 season, with a final decision on which will be implemented expected in July or August.

How the BBL teams shape up for 2025-2026
There will be eight teams partaking in the 2025-26 Big Bash League with the Hobart Hurricanes the $5 equal favourites to win the title.
Sydney Sixers
- Home Ground: Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG)
- Captain: Moises Henriques
- Coach: Greg Shipperd
- International Players: Babar Azam (Pakistan, Platinum signing), Sam Curran (England), Jafer Chohan (England)
- Best BBL|15 Odds: $6
The Sixers have secured Pakistan superstar Babar Azam — one of the biggest recruits of BBL|15 — with a break in the international schedule working out perfectly. They have also landed England all-rounder Sam Curran for his debut season in the BBL. They should be a strong chance of adding to their three previous titles.
Sydney Thunder
- Home Ground: Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG)
- Captain: David Warner
- Coach: Trevor Bayliss
- International Players: Lockie Ferguson (New Zealand), Shadab Khan (Pakistan), Sam Billings (England)
- Best BBL|15 Odds: $8
Won their only title 10 years ago, but finished runners-up to the Hurricanes last season to signal a resurgence. Does David Warner have another big season in him after topping the Thunder’s run scorers last season. Shadab Khan is one of the best all-rounders in T20 cricket.
Perth Scorchers
- Home ground: Optus Stadium.
- Captain: Ashton Turner.
- Coach: Adam Voges.
- International players: Finn Allen (New Zealand), Laurie Evans (England), David Payne (England)
- Best BBL|15 Odds: $5.50
The most successful team in this league with five titles but missed the finals for only the third time in their history last season and they will be keen to get back to the pointy end of the competition this time. Powerful all-rounder Mitch Marsh will need to lead from the front and once all their internationals arrive they have an imposing if new-look line-up.
Melbourne Stars
- Home ground: Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
- Captain: Marcus Stoinis.
- Coach: Peter Moores.
- International players: Tom Curran (England), Joe Clarke (England), Haris Rauf (Pakistan)
- Best BBL|15 Odds: $9
The only team in it to have not won a BBL title but they ended a long drought by at least making the finals last season. The Stars’ veteran line-up is capable enough but the three-time runners-up would need everything to go right. The finished the regular season last time with five straight wins to make the finals, where they fell at the first hurdle. But it’s an indication that they are always dangerous with the likes of Glenn Maxwell in the team.
Melbourne Renegades
- Home ground: Marvel Stadium, GMHBA Stadium.
- Captain: Will Sutherland.
- Coach: Cameron White.
- International players: Mohammed Rizwan (Pakistan), Hassan Khan (Pakistan), Tim Seifert (New Zealand)
- Best BBL|15 Odds: $10
The Renegades shocked many when they upstaged the Stars to become the first team from the Victorian capital to claim the title in 2018-19. But the Renegades have made the finals only once since then. The Renegades look to have a powerful bowling line-up packed with experience and great spinners, but the question marks remain over their batting. They will certainly be an interesting watch this season.
Brisbane Heat
- Home ground: Gabba, Metricon Stadium.
- Captain: Usman Khawaja
- Coach: Johan Botha.
- International players: Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan), Colin Munro (New Zealand), Tom Alsop (England)
- Best BBL|15 Odds: $7
The Heat have had a huge boost by landing Pakistan superstar Shaheen Afridi as the top pick in the BBL draft. The towering left-arm paceman will be dangerous at the Gabba, while Kiwi veteran Colin Munro is also a proven commodity at this level. The Heat, of course, landed their second title two seasons ago before falling away badly last season to miss the finals. They will feel the loss of leg-spinner Mitch Swepson to the Stars.
Adelaide Strikers
- Home ground: Adelaide Oval.
- Captain: Matthew Short.
- Coach: Tim Paine.
- International players: Jamie Overton (England), Luke Wood (England), Hasan Ali (Pakistan).
- Best BBL|15 Odds: $7
The Strikers finished dead last in the previous BBL season in their first year under new coach Paine after many years with Jason Gillespie in charges. They are relying on English pace duo Jamie Overton and Luke Wood to lift their fortunes this season. Captain Matt Short is a star in this format and a big season from him could carry them a long way.
Hobart Hurricanes
- Home ground: Bellerive Oval (Blundstone Arena), University of Tasmania Stadium.
- Captain: Nathan Ellis
- Coach: Jeff Vaughan
- International players: Chris Jordan (England), Rishad Hossain (Bangladesh), Rehan Ahmed (England)
- Best BBL|15 Odds: $5
Simply brilliant last season to win their maiden title and they only look stronger this season. They have added the likes of Jake Weatherald and Beau Webster to an already stacked line-up full of power hitters. Mitch Owen amassed 452 runs last season at a strike rate of more than 200! Throw in Tim David and Ben McDermott, among others, and it’s an explosive team. Be a shock for them to not finish in the top couple this time again.
