Bianca Andreescu v Belinda Bencic predictions, US Open semi final tips 2019

WTA Dubai betting predictions, best bets & preview

BUDDING star Bianca Andreescu will have the opportunity to become the first Canadian to reach a grand slam final for five years when she clashes with Belinda Bencic in the semifinals of the US Open on Thursday night.

The world number 15 defeated Elise Mertens 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 on the back of a convincing service game, which saw her win 75% of all points on her first serve and her return game, which was far more convincing than her German opponent.

Bencic, seeded no.13, advanced through to the semi-final with a victory over Donna Vekic (7-6, 6-3) but she faces a tougher task against the on-fire Canadian, who has been one of the form players on the tour this year, despite several injuries interrupting her season.

The bookies have installed Andreescu a 1.75 favourite to win the clash against Bencic, who has been priced at 2.08. While it is already Bencic’s best result at a grand slam tournament (her previous best was the fourth round at the Australian Open and twice at Wimbledon) the 22 year old will fancy her chances of upsetting the less experienced Canadian.

Andreescu’s previous best result at a grand slam were second round exits at the Australian and French Open earlier this year, but a remarkable win at Indian Wells and then a fourth round (where she retired hurt) at the Miami Open means her barnstorming run at the US Open is no surprise.

US Open semi final: Andreescu v Bencic predictions

We are predicting Andreescu can become the first female Canadian through to a grand slam final since Eugenie Bouchard reached the Wimbledon decider in 2014. We also think she can win the final, even if it is the great Serena Williams up the other end, who still has to navigate through her own semi final against Elina Svitolina, who is ranked higher than her. Andreescu has a win against Williams, although the the US star did retire hurt at the Rogers Cup to hand Andreescu her second career tournament victory at a senior level.

Why do we think Andreescu can win? Basically she is a pleasure to watch in the modern era of baseline sluggers, with her game almost a throwback to Martina Hingis’ magnificent angles and touch right around the court. She was even compared to Belgian champion Kim Clijsters by Caroline Wozniacki after she was conquered in the third round of this tournament. If Andreescu can keep her nerves at bay we’re predicting the young prodigy to win in three sets against Bencic.
