Welcome to our Daniil Medvedev v Dominic Thiem betting tips, prediction and odds update ahead of their US Open semi-final at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday night.

Medvedev, the number three seed, is favored in the betting, despite Thiem being seeded second for this event. He is paying 1.80 and the Austrian is at 2.00.

Medvedev trails 1-2 in head to head meetings with Thiem, but the Russian won their last encounter at the Montreal tournament last year.

Thiem was patchy throughout the early rounds of the US Open, but he has began to look like the player that reached the Australian Open final earlier this year. His dismissal of young guns Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex De Minaur in the last two rounds has come at a cost of losing just 15 games.

Medvedev is yet to drop a set at the tournament with his latest victory being over countryman Andrey Rublev. He has only dropped service three times out of 68 games and has been among the best returners at the tournament, converting 25 of 48 break points.

The Medvedev v Thiem clash, which has all the hallmarks of an exceptionally close match is due to start at the conclusion of the other men’s semi-final.

Read on for our free Medvedev v Thiem picks and winner prediction for their US Open semi final being played on Friday from around 6pm New York time.

Medvedev v Thiem tips

Our tennis betting expert has cast his eye over the betting and found some value Medvedev v Thiem tips:

Correct set betting

It’s hard to see this game being over in three sets with both players evenly match and seeking their first grand slam titles. There has never been a bigger opportunity with Novak Djokovic being disqualified and Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal absent. We can see this being a five setter and our gut is telling us Thiem will come out on top. Both players are paying 5.50 to win in five sets at Betway.

Dominic Thiem to win the first set

Thiem has been dominant from the outset in his previous two encounters and will look to press his claims early in this one. He will need to find the right range on his serve early, with this a vulnerable area in his game early in the tournament. Thiem is paying 1.97 with William Hill (read William Hill review) to win the first set.

WGL Best BetMatch prediction:

We are not entirely convinced that Medvedev should be favourite in this match, with Thiem having a slightly bigger game than his opponent. The Austrian has been super-impressive in the last two rounds, beating two of the best young players on the ATP. But Medvedev has not really look troubled throughout the tournament and probably has a game perfectly suited to the hard courts at Flushing Meadows. With it hard to split these two, we’ll take the slightly better odds on offer for a Thiem victory. Our final Medvedev v Thiem prediction? Thiem to win in five sets.
