Hurricanes v Sixers betting tips, prediction & odds; BBL Game 1 Preview

Welcome to our Hobart Hurricanes v Sydney Sixers betting tips, winner prediction and odds analysis for Game 1 of the 2020-21 Big Bash League at Blundstone Arena, Hobart, on Thursday, December 10.

The 10th edition of the BBL will start with all matches played in hubs in Tasmania and Canberra up until the match between the Heat and the Strikers on December 23 at the Gabba in Brisbane.

The Hurricanes have only one of their three international players available for the opener, with the world’s No.1-ranked T20 batsman Dawid Malan and West Indian Keemo Paul serving quarantine periods.

The home team will also be without opener and captain Matthew Wade, who has been included in the squad for the first Test against India in Adelaide from December 17.

The Sydney Sixers are the defending BBL champions and and have powerful Englishman James Vince and West Indies T20 specialist Carlos Braithwaite ready to wreak havoc. They had rising England all-rounder Tom Curran due to arrive after Christmas but he has pulled out of his BBL stint, citing “bubble fatigue”. English bowler Jake Ball has taken his spot.

The Hobart weather is forecast to be cool but clear, and Blundstone Arena has often been a high-scoring ground, though the early matches in any BBL can throw up surprises.

Victorian Peter Handscomb, in his first season with the Hurricanes, has been handed the captaincy in the absence of Wade, and he adds a touch of class to the middle order.

Hurricanes v Sixers betting tips

Our cricket tipsters have examined the odds and found several Hobart v Sydney Sixers tips for Thursday’s BBL opener.

Sixers to win at $2

The defending champions just have a more solid look their top order and also their bowling line-up, though they must be wary of BBL debutant Will Jacks, who could form a devastating opening partnership with D’Arcy Short, who has been a star for years in this competition.

Daniel Hughes man of the match at $11

The veteran left-hander is ultra reliable and looms as the man likely to anchor the Sixers’ innings. He is one of those players just short of playing international cricket and will be a mainstay for his team this summer.

Hurricanes v Sixers prediction 10/12/2020

It’s never a bad ploy to wait and see how the BBL season starts off. We are tipping a slight upset with the Sixers to win. We feel they should be slight favourites with the bookies, rather than the other way around, as it is. The Sixers will be keen to get their title defence off to a flyer. Our final Hurricanes v Sixers prediction: Sixers to win a high-scoring clash.
