Hurricanes v Stars betting tips, prediction & odds; BBL Match 23 Preview

Scorchers v Renegades BBL10

Welcome to our Hobart Hurricanes v Melbourne Stars betting tips, winner prediction and odds analysis for Game 23 of the 2020-21 Big Bash League at Blundstone Arena on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

This is a match between two teams whose seasons seem to be headed in opposite directions. The Hurricanes have been strong from the start of the season and seem to have the knack for getting over the line in close games, while the Stars started brilliantly but have been outplayed in their past couple of matches and are in danger of losing touch with the leading teams.

Leading bookie Unibet has made the Stars the $1.75 favourites but we think they have it wrong and would much rather be on the home team at $2.05.

Both teams have something of a bowling crisis heading into this match. The Stars have lost Nathan Coulter-Nile (calf) for up to three weeks, while top-notch leg-spinner Adam Zampa is suspended for this game.

Zampa was fined $2500 and banned for one match for an audible obscenity in the match against Sydney Thunder.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are still without left-arm paceman James Faulkner (hamstring), while West Indian Keemo Paul limped off on Wednesday night during their thrilling win against the Brisbane Heat.

On the positive side for the Hurricanes, Nepalese leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane is expected to be available for this clash after his arrival was delayed by a bout of Covid-19.

Given the Stars collapsed against the spin of Chris Green and Tanveer Sangha against the Thunder in their latest outing, Lamichhane could cause plenty of problems with his special brand of wizardry.

Hurricanes v Stars betting tips

Our cricket tipsters have examined the odds and found several Hurricanes v Stars tips for Saturday night’s BBL clash.

D’Arcy Short top score for Hurricanes

Short has had a funny sort of season, but it’s only a matter of time before he posts a big one. This is as good a time as any to jump on the ‘Canes run machine. He’s also worth a small wager in betting on match of the match as his gentle spinners have been causing problems for most opposition.

Nicholas Pooran top score for Stars

The Wests Indies left-hander is a quality batsman and give the way the Stars’ top order has struggled lately he could get the chance to bat plenty of over. He is a Test-quality player and a sweet striker of the ball and seems over the odds at the $6 mark

Hurricanes v Stars prediction 2/1/2021

The BBL is a tournament all about momentum. The Hurricanes were fortunate to escape with the points against the Heat at the Gabba during the week, but it has them headed in the right direction. And their batting line-up looks simply outstanding. If a couple of Short, Malan, McDermott, Ingram and David get going, they could rack up a huge total. Our final Heat v Stars prediction: Hurricanes to win at home.
