Hurricanes v Thunder betting tips, prediction & odds; BBL Match 31 Preview

Scorchers v Renegades BBL10

Welcome to our Hobart Hurricanes v Sydney Thunder betting tips, winner prediction and odds analysis for Game 31 of the 2020-21 Big Bash League at Optus Stadium, Perth, on Thursday, January 7.

This is the first time these two teams have met this tournament; their most recent meeting was win for the Thunder in the eliminator final in BBL9.

Both teams are travelling beautifully this season and this should be a fascinating clash on neutral soil in Perth, and the winners here will likely move to the top of the BBL table.

These teams feature some of the best T20 batsmen in the world, though ‘Canes star Colin Ingram, the South Africa whose BBL10 stint is coming to an end anyway, is in doubt with a hip injury.

Star Thunder all-rounder Daniel Sams suffered a minor concussion in the Thunder’s loss to the Heat after being struck on the helmet while batting and will most likely miss this match.

Otherwise, the Thunder are at near full strength, with English wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings finding his feet, and bring a different look to the BBL with their reliance on spin including Tanveer Sangha and Chris Green.

That will create an intriguing match-up against BBL10 leading run-scorer Ben McDermott, who does not look anywhere near as comfortable against good spin bowling as he does against pace.

Read on for our free Hurricanes v Thunder tips ahead of their T20 clash at Optus Stadium on Thursday, January 7.

Hurricanes v Thunder betting tips

Our cricket tipsters have examined the odds and found several Hurricanes v Thunder tips for Thursday’s BBL clash.

Dawid Malan top-scorer for Hurricanes

Prolific BBL run-scorer D’Arcy short has been out of sorts of late, while McDermott can struggle against quality spin, of which the Thunder have plenty. That leaves the skilful Malan as most likely to rack up a big one at the top of the order, with Ingram also unlikely to play.

Adam Milne over 1.5 wickets

The Thunder’s Kiwi paceman has impressed without yet collecting a bag of wickets. He is paying $2.75 with Unibet to take two wickets or more and we think he could prove difficult to play in Perth. With Sams out of the equation, Milne needs to take on the role of No.1 paceman.

Hurricanes v Thunder prediction 7/1/2021

Both teams have travelled from the east in the past few days so have had similar preparations. The Thunder opener Alex Hales looms as the key factor in this match. When he has gotten a start of late the Thunder generally post a big total, and he scores his runs faster than almost anyone in the league. Hurricanes ace Dawid Malan is also looking the goods early in his stint though the likely loss of Ingram will hurt the Tasmanian team as he has been outstanding in the first half of the season, while Sams will also be sorely missed, as much for his lusty hitting as his wicket-taking bowling. This looms as one of the matches of the tournament so far. Our final Heat v Thunder prediction? Thunder in a close one.
