Afghanistan vs West Indies betting predictions - ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Welcome to our ICC World Cup predictions for Afghanistan v West Indies at Headingley, Leeds, on Thursday. Our Cricket World Cup betting expert examines the two teams and finds some potentially profitable wagers.

West Indies are red-hot $1.25 favourites for their World Cup match against Afghanistan, a clash which brings down the curtain on the tournament for both teams.

Afghanistan will finish last and the West Indies most likely second-last.

The former are winless and will be desperate to get off the mark here and leave England and Wales on a high. They have come close a couple of times but their batting has just not quite been good enough.

For the West Indies, they have been competitive but also disappointing. This is likely to be the last World Cup match for big-hitting opener Chris Gayle, 39. He has struggled in this World Cup and he will most likely focus on the shortest form of the game until his retirement.

It pays to check leading cricket bookies William Hill on the day of the match to spot any late specials on offer. Your tip for top batsman could be among the enhanced odds offering.

HEAD TO HEAD BETTING:

Afghanistan $4.00, West Indies $1.25
Prediction: This is Afghanistan’s last chance to break their duck and there’s no reason they can’t give it a shake. As with West Indies’ match against Sri Lanka on Monday, we can’t justify taking the super short odds about a Windies team prone to falling short.

v Sri Lanka: Nicholas Pooran 118
v India: Sunil Ambris 31
v New Zealand: Carlos Brathwaite 101
v Bangladesh: Shai Hope 96
v England: Nicholas Pooran 63

Top batter prediction: We tipped Chris Gayle against Sri Lanka on Monday. The Universe Master battled hard but fell for 35. He has unfortunately struggled to get going in this tournament so we have to look elsewhere and go with Nicholas Pooran to back up his maiden World Cup ton with another big knock. For Afghanistan, Hashmatullah Shahidi has shown plenty of fight and he will do us at $5.50.

TOP WICKET-TAKER BETTING PREDICTION:

Afghanistan:
Top five in betting: Rashid Khan $3, Mujeeb Ur Rahman $3.25, Mohammad Nabi $4.50, Sayed Shirzad $4.50, Dawlat Zadran $5, Gulbadin Naib $5.

Top wicket-takers from past five ODIs:
v Pakistan: Mujeeb Ur Rahman 2-34, Mohammad Nabi 2-23, Rashid Khan 2-50
v Bangladesh: Mujeeb Ur Rahman 3-39
v India: Mohammad Nabi 2-33, Gulbadin Naib 2-51
v England: Dawlat Zadran 3-85, Gulbadin Naib 3-68
v South Africa: Gulbadin Naib 1-29

West Indies:
Top five in betting: Sheldon Cottrell $4, Oshane Thomas $4.33, Kemar Roach $4.50, Jason Holder $4.50, Shannon Gabriel $4.50.

Top wicket-takers from past five ODIs:
v Sri Lanka: Jason Holder 2-59
v India: Kemar Roach 3-36
v New Zealand: Sheldon Cottrell 4-56
v Bangladesh: Oshane Thomas 1-52, Andre Russell 1-42
v England: Shannon Gabriel 2-49

Top bowler tip: Rashid Khan finally topped the wicket-takers for us against Pakistan; unfortunately he was one of three to take two wickets so it was not a financial result! We will stick with Rashid at $3 to finish with a flourish as the West Indies batsmen are not renowned as subtle players of spin. The West Indies bowlers have largely only battled. We will predict Kemar Roach at $4.50 to top their wicket-takers in this match.

Best bets: Afghanistan v West Indies

Each of our ICC World Cup betting previews will highlight some potential wins for punters, or where our cricket tipsters think there is value to be found.

West Indies to hit the most sixes at $1.36

We think this is a better bet than the West Indies winning, They have plenty of firepower.

Rashid Khan man of the match

Rashid Khan, despite his struggles with the ball, has been great for us in this tournament, topping the batting when we tipped him at $33 against South Africa. He should be around $12-$15 to top the bill here and we will back him to finish with a flourish.

Afghanistan v West Indies predictions

As mentioned, we can’t have the Windies at the super short odds. They started the tournament brilliantly by crushing Pakistan but have not won since, though they did push Australia all the way. This is a danger game for them and a chance for the Afghanistan spinners to weave some magic. Good punting.
