Welcome to our Brisbane v Geelong betting tips, predictions and odds analysis ahead of Thursday night’s blockbuster at the Gabba.
These two AFL clubs are both headed towards September and are among the bookies’ top chances to win the 2021 AFL Premiership, with Geelong in third and Brisbane in fourth on the AFL ladder.
Friday night: Richmond v St Kilda tips
The Cats have rattled off six consecutive wins after a slow start to the season but now have key players like Patrick Dangerfield, Cam Guthrie and Jeremy Cameron in the line-up with match practice under their belt.
Brisbane has overcome some hurdles of their own, including Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale missing a significant chunk of football and young gun Cam Rayner injuring his ACL. But they are now humming and have won three successive games, including easing past North Melbourne in Tasmania in a frustrating game for spectators.
Australian betting sites have installed the Lions a $1.68 favourite for this clash, with the Cats outsiders at $2.20, with this undoubtedly a reflection of the home ground advantage the Queensland club has. The early line has been set at 5.5, which is probably too narrow to take in this contest.
The Lions will be boosted by the return of skipper Dayne Zorko from suspension, while Jarrod Berry (groin) and Jack Payne (foot) are nearing return from injury and will come into contention for this clash.
Geelong has dodged a bullet with Joel Selwood not being rubbed out for his double incident against the Western Bulldogs. They will lose Mitch Duncan (knee) but have in-form players in the twos that could come in and play a role.

Our AFL betting expert has assessed the markets and found some value Brisbane v Geelong tips:
Guthrie has taken his game to a new level this season and after overcoming a slight injury hiccup (he returned a fortnight ago) he can recapture his dynamic best. He’s a candidate to go head-to-head with the freewheeling Neale or Jarrod Lyons, which could lead to a huge possession count. He’s paying around the $1.50 mark to reach 30 touches.
The tribet market has become increasingly popular on the AFL and we think this Lions v Cats clash is a prime candidate for it to pay off. Either team to win by 15 or less is paying $2.50 which we think is great value, given how evenly these teams are matched.
Geelong is exceptional at stopping the long ball into attack, but if the Lions big men can bring the ball to the ground, there are not many better at finding the crumb than Charlie Cameron. He is paying $1.80 to kick 2+ goals which is good value for such a talented player.
Geelong undoubtedly looks the better team on paper, with guns across all lines and the most imposing forward setup in the competition. But Brisbane keep finding ways to win and the recruitment of Joe Daniher has given them a point of difference. We are slightly worried the Cats are due a downer, but they always seem to find a way to get up for the big games (unless it’s a final…) and we think this is closer to a 50-50 game than the bookies are letting on. Take the $2.20 on offer for a Cats win with glee. Our final Brisbane v Geelong prediction? Cats by 13 points.
