The fourth-placed Suns are a firming $1.60 favourite at AFL betting sites to defeat the Hawks ($2.30), who have moved into third position after three wins on the trot. The Suns v Hawks line has also ballooned out to 8.5 points after the teams were announced, with several key players out for the Melbourne-based team.
Gold Coast recorded one of their most important victories last start against the Western Bulldogs, with Damien Hardwick’s team looking destined for a debut finals performance in 2025.
The Suns have made two changes for this clash, which will mark Touk Miller’s 200th game in the AFL, with Ned Moyle and David Swallow being included at the expense of Jake Rogers and Will Graham.
The Hawks have swung five changes to the team that thrashed Melbourne by 35 points, with Tom Barrass, Ned Reeves, Jack Scrimshaw, Calsher Dear and Cam McKenzie coming into the line-up. Jarman Impey, Jack Gunston, Luke Breust, Lloyd Meek and Henry Hustwaite have gone out of the team.

Our AFL betting expert has cast their eye over the teams and found some value Gold Coast v Hawthorn tips:
The former Suns captain, who will play his 200th game against the Hawks, has been back to his hard-running best in recent weeks, and with star Matt Rowell down on form, Miller has been very important. The Hawks are unlikely to tag Miller, with Rowell and Noah Anderson running around and 25+ possessions looks to be a safe bet at $1.50 with online betting sites.
Suns small forward Malcolm Rosas has plenty of tricks in his bag, and has kicked two goals in three of his past four matches. The Hawks can be exploited by smalls with Harvey Langford (3 goals) and Kysaiah Pickett (2.2 goals) playing well for the Demons last round. Rosas is also offering some nice value for 2+ goals at $2.38.
The Hawks midfield is super consistent and while it lacks star power, you never know which player will break out on the day and have a swath of possessions. This is frustrating as hell for punters, but James Worpel, Jai Newcombe and Karl Amon are all averaging over 20 possessions and are unlikely to be tagged by the Suns. We will be putting this trio in our multi for 20+ possessions.
Gold Coast has begun to show the AFL they are coming of age under Richmond premiership coach Damian Hardwick, with the recruitment of John Noble and Daniel Rioli giving them some punch from the back half. Their midfield, lead by the prolific Anderson, looks to shade the Hawks and we think they have a narrow edge here. Another factor is the Darwin conditions, which the Suns played in last week, which should help them jump the Hawks early. Our final Gold Coast v Hawthorn prediction? Suns by 12 points.
