AFL round 15 odds update — Is Thursday night a GF preview?

AFL round 7 odds 2022

AFL round 15 will kick off with a potential grand final preview on Thursday night, with Brisbane set to host Geelong at the Gabba. We preview all the action, including latest odds, and give you our early tips for this week’s games.

The Lions eased past North Melbourne last outing in Tasmania, but they will need to significantly improve if they are to defeat the Cats, who beat the Western Bulldogs with a Gary Rohan kick after the siren last Saturday.

The Cats suffered a huge blow in their win over the Dogs, with Mitch Duncan subbed out in the opening minutes with a serious knee injury, which is likely to keep him out until the cusp of the finals. They will also be sweating on the tribunal outcome of Joel Selwood who was reported twice and is likely to receive at least a week.

Australian bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair, with the Lions ($1.71) favourites ahead of Geelong ($2.14), while the line has been set at 6.5 points, with this unlikely to lengthen much.

On Friday night, Richmond ($1.18) will host St Kilda ($4.95) at the MCG with there no word as to whether there will be a crowd allowed at the ground. The Tigers have not been their dynamic best in 2021, but sit in eighth position and will go into this clash heavy favourites. The Saints are floundering and if they are to mount a late finals charge need to win this game, against a Tigers team who are two games ahead of them.

There are four games to be played on Saturday, with North Melbourne ($1.77) and Gold Coast ($2.10) set to open proceedings at Blundstone Arena. The Roos and Suns both need a win to lift flagging spirits, although the former has lifted in recent weeks with some experience coming back into the team.

Collingwood ($1.68) will begin life under caretaker coach Robert Harvey against Fremantle ($2.20) at Marvel Stadium on Saturday, with the Magpies playing a rare home game at the other Melbourne venue. The Magpies sent former coach Nathan Buckley off with a rousing win over Melbourne on the Queens Birthday Monday, but will have to beat the Dockers without Darcy Moore, who suffered a knee injury. They will however be boosted by the likely returns of Taylor Adams and gun ruck Brodie Grundy.

Essendon ($4) need an upset against Melbourne ($1.25) in the early night game on Saturday, after slumping to 11th on the ladder. They are two games behind eighth and will need to beat the Premiership favourites here to be any hope. The Demons will be tempted to bring in recruit Ben Brown, after Sam Weidemann copped a whipping off Moore.

Finals-bound Port Adelaide ($1. 34) are the bookies’ elect for their clash against Sydney ($3.25) at the Adelaide Oval, but the up and down Swans are not without claims. The Power were impressive against Gold Coast last outing, but will have to play this game without Robbie Gray, who will be sent for scans on an injured knee.

Sunday’s matches will see GWS ($1.25) take on Hawthorn $4 at Giants Stadium, West Coast Eagles ($1.75) clash with Western Bulldogs ($2.10) and Carlton ($1.60) play Adelaide ($2.34).
