AFL round 18 odds, early tips and fixture

AFL round 7 odds 2022

AFL round 18 promises to be a beauty, with nine games over four days, with the first coming on Thursday night.

Round 18 will open with a bumper clash between Fremantle ($2.48) and Geelong ($1.54) on Thursday night at Optus Stadium. The Dockers warmed up for this clash with a demolition of Hawthorn on Saturday, with their young midfield chopping up the Hawks.

Geelong were 26-point winners over Carlton on Saturday with their greater spread of midfielders and more cohesive forward line proving too much for the Blues. The Cats may lose Gary Rohan to a corked leg, but they will regain captain Joel Selwood after he was rested for the Blues game.

On Friday night, Richmond’s ($2.69) sliding season will continue when they host Brisbane ($1.47) at the MCG. The Tigers were shock losers to Collingwood on Sunday, with this putting them six points out of the top eight and facing a September in the wilderness. The Tigers will be hopeful of regaining Nick Vlastuin and Shane Edwards for the clash, but coach Damien Hardwick did indicate it was unlikely in his press conference following the Magpies loss.

The Lions also have plenty to play for after succumbing to St Kilda by 32 points, which came with an extra dagger. Tall forward Eric Hipwood has suffered an ACL injury and will miss the bulk of next season with the injury, while key defender Marcus Adams also faces a stint on the sidelines. These injuries will force coach Chris Fagan to dig deep into the Lions reserves, although Jarrod Berry may return from calf tightness.

Saturday’s early game will feature GWS playing the Sydney Swans in Ballarat. The Giants were shock losers to the Gold Coast last start and face their on-fire crosstown rival at an unusual venue as their season goes on the line. They will also have to do it without runner Lachie Whitfield (concussion), although Stephen Coniglio starred in the VFL and will likely return from a serious knee injury.

Gold Coast will be gunning for three wins in a row when they host the Western Bulldogs, who are coming off a shock loss to the Swans. The Dogs will regain boom forward Aaron Naughton, with his inclusion likely to come at the expense of no.1 pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. The Suns have indicated Noah Anderson is ready to return from his hand injury.

Melbourne will go into its clash against Hawthorn as a strong favourite with Australian betting sites as they push towards the minor Premiership. The Demons have a clean injury list in comparison to their opposition and seem likely to easily account for the Hawks, who seem more focused on what is happening with their coaching situation.

St Kilda has charged into ninth place on the back of a strong month of football, with Saturday night’s clash against Port Adelaide promising to be a beauty. The Saints are unlikely to make wholesale changes for this clash, but could consider luckless recruit Dan Hannebery after he returned through the VFL.

Sunday’s matches will see North Melbourne host Essendon at Marvel Stadium; Collingwood vs Carlton at the MCG and Adelaide and West Coast from the Adelaide Oval.
