Lions v Bulldogs tips and prediction; AFL semi final 2021

Welcome to our Brisbane v Western Bulldogs betting tips, prediction and odds analysis for their AFL semi-final at the Gabba on Saturday night.

The Lions have been installed a $1.62 favourite to win this clash, with the Western Bulldogs ($2.31) outsiders, despite the impressive nature of their win over Essendon.

The Bulldogs were premiership favourites for much of 2021, however form concerns and several key injuries has seen them plummet back to earth, missing a double chance, with their semi-final opponent snatching up the opportunity.

The Lions sputtered and coughed their way into the top four following a slow start to the season, but like the Lions, they have had to overcome adversity with the likes of Cam Rayner and Eric Hipwood going down with serious knee injuries.

MORE AFL TIPS

The two clubs have met once this season, with the round 4 clash resulting in a 19-point win for the Bulldogs, although it’s hard to read much into this encounter, given the water that has passed under the bridge since.

The Lions will lose powerful forward Dan McStay (concussion) after he was subbed out early in their loss to Melbourne, but Ryan Lester (hamstring) has trained well and is likely to return to the line-up.

The Bulldogs have an exceptionally fit list for this time of the season, although the loss of spearhead Josh Bruce to a knee injury has been a major blow. They might regain Zaine Cordy after he was a late withdrawal against the Bombers, while Hayden Crozier will have to pass concussion protocols to be included.

Brisbane v Western Bulldogs tips – AFL semi-final 2021

WGL’s AFL expert has examined the markets and found some value Western Bulldogs v Brisbane tips:

Josh Schache to kick 2+ goals

We were very worried about how the Bulldogs were going to kick their goals in the win over the Bombers and it was Josh Schache, the former top draft pick, they turned to after a recent stint in defence. Schache, while not brilliant, was rock solid and looks a more than capable option to replace Bruce up front. He is paying $4 to kick 2+ goals.

Western Bulldogs to win 1-39 points

We think the Bulldogs win this game, but they won’t run away with it, because they don’t have the firepower. The 1-39 margin market betting is a great way to get slightly better odds.

Jack Macrae & Lachie Neale to both reach 30 possessions

Death, taxes and Jack Macrae getting 30+ touches for the Bulldogs each week, while it was a similar story with Brisbane ace Neale for a long time. Macrae is unlikely to be hard-tagged and is paying $1.72 to reach 30 touches, which looks good value. Neale is also beginning to hit his straps and the $2 up for grabs on his possession count, is not one you would have seen last year, against a free-flowing dogs team.

Brisbane v Western Bulldogs prediction 4/9/2021

Brisbane is heavily favoured to win this game with Australian betting sites, however the Bulldogs have been a more consistent force this year. The one query we have on the Bulldogs, is their ability to kick enough goals without Josh Bruce and it’s showing great restraint not playing young star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. The Lions have become a team with many avenues to goal, but our gut is telling us this game will be won and lost in the midfield, where the Bulldogs have the talent. In the end, we mark this game much closer to 50-50 than AFL betting sites, which is enough for us to take the Dogs. Our final Brisbane v Western Bulldogs prediction? Dogs by 11 points.
