Welcome to our Essendon v GWS betting tips and winner prediction for their AFL round 19 clash at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night.
The injury ravaged Bombers are priced at $8 to cause an upset against the Giants ($1.07), who look to have a live kill on their hands, with their opposition missing up to 12 first choice players.
The one-sided nature of the Bombers v GWS betting might rule out the head-to-head or handicap bets, but there are some exotic opportunities among the player markets.
The Giants have won four successive matches including wins over premiership contenders Geelong, Gold Coast and Brisbane Lions to move into seventh position, and loom as a serious threat for the flag.
The 6-10 Bombers are fresh off a loss to rebuilding Richmond and face more injury pain, with star wingman Nic Martin rupturing his ACL against the Tigers, while midfielder Will Setterfield (foot) will also miss the remainder of the season. Nate Caddy and Ben Hobbs are also likely to miss with injury.
The Giants are likely to give Coleman Medallist Jesse Hogan a rest this week with a toe issue, while Josh Kelly (hip) is also unlikely to be passed fit.

Our AFL betting expert has cast their eye over the markets and found some value Essendon v GWS betting tips:
The young Bombers forward has played only four games since being picked up mid-season, and we’ve hit once and missed once in a betting sense. We’re going to give him another go here at 2+ goals, which looks very possible given the absence of no.1 spearhead Caddy. He’s also offering a juicy $2.70 to kick 2+.
With GWS spearhead Hogan missing we expect Riccardi to play closer to goal this week, which should see him hit the scoreboard, alongside the emerging Aaron Cadman. Riccardi is a noted goal-kicker, but has been quieter since Jake Stringer came into the team. This week is his chance to shine. He is paying $3.30 to kick 3+ goals. Also strongly consider Cadman to kick a bag, after his breakout game last start.
Essendon skipper Merrett has returned to the midfield in the last fortnight and found plenty of the ball, he is paying $1.33 to gather 25+ or $2.15 to reach 30+.
GWS has too much firepower and experience for a Bombers side bleeding talent to injury. We expect the Bombers to come out fired up, and possibly stay close for a half, but ultimately the Giants will run away with this one. Do you take the 40+ margin? We’ll leave that one up to you. Our final Essendon v GWS prediction? Giants by 39 points.
