Geelong v Richmond betting tips, prediction and odds; AFL Rd 19 preview

Welcome to our Geelong v Richmond betting tips, prediction and odds analysis for their AFL round 19 clash at the MCG on Sunday.

Of course, it’s impossible to write a Cats v Tigers preview without mentioning the season-ending kidney injury that Dustin Martin suffered against Brisbane last outing, which some claim has ended their premiership hopes.

This injury, and the trajectory of both teams this year, has seen the Cats installed a $1.37 favourite to defeat Richmond ($3.14), who are in a fight for a top eight position. The line has been set at 16.5.

The Tigers defeated the Lions by 20 points last Friday night, but prior to that had lost four successive games, but remain in ninth position, just four points behind seventh-placed West Coast.

ALL AFL TIPS

Geelong embarrassed the Dockers to the tune of 69 points last Thursday night, with this dismissal of a finals contender one of the Cats best performances of the season.

The Cats, who will be celebrating Shaun Higgins 250th and Esava Raugolea’s 50th game, have included Gary Rohan, Lachie Henderson and Zach Guthrie into their squad, but are yet to cut anyone.

The Tigers have included forward Callum Coleman-Jones, Hugo Ralphsmith, Josh Caddy, Riley Collier-Dawkins and Shane Edwards. Martin and Kamdyn McIntosh (hamstring) are the only confirmed outs.

Geelong v Richmond betting tips 25/7

Our AFL betting expert has examined the markets and found some value Geelong v Richmond tips:

Shai Bolton to kick 2+ goals

When Martin was injured earlier in the season, it was Bolton who exploded, but his form has tapered somewhat since. If the Tigers are to firstly make September and then do any damage, they will need the exciting Bolton to lift. He is paying $2.50 to kick 2+ goals.

Gary Rohan to kick 2+ goals

Rohan has just had a week off to deal with some niggling injuries, after several quiet weeks, but we think he will play well here fresh. He also has explosive pace, which is something that can trouble the Tigers’ backline. He is paying $1.80 with TopSport Australia to kick 2+ goals.

Possessions betting tips – Cats v Tigers

Geelong has got several players who are almost locks in same game multis for possession betting, with Cam Guthrie (over 30) and Tom Stewart (over 25) our picks for this game, but keep an eye on Sam Menegola, who has spent more time in the midfield in recent weeks. The Tigers tend to share the load more, but Kane Lambert and Liam Baker (over 20) could be beneficiaries of Dusty’s injury. For the more adventurous I really like Baker to get over 25 possessions.

Geelong Cats v Richmond Tigers prediction

Geelong is in a much better position in terms of cattle and we just can’t see the Tigers upsetting them in this contest. While the clash will be played behind closed doors, which can contribute to strange results, the Cats’ consistent midfield looks to shade the Dusty-less Tigers. Although you can never write a team with Jack Riewoldt and Tom Lynch off completely. Our final Geelong v Richmond prediction? Cats by 19 points.
