NRL Round 4 odds, title update and schedule 2022; Nathan Cleary returns

NRL round 7: Cowboys v Titans

NRL Round 4, 2022, starts on Thursday, March 31, but the grand final rematch between Penrith and South Sydney on Friday night is the clear match of the round. We take an early look at a big week ahead in the NRL.

Just three rounds in and the defending premiers Penrith are the only undefeated team left in the comp, but they will face a stern challenge against the Rabbitohs, who ignited their season by thumping arch rivals the Sydney Roosters in round three.

NRL round 4 starts on Thursday night with Wests Tigers, the only team yet to win a game, travelling to the Gold Coast to tackle the 1-2 Titans at CBUS Super Stadium.

Bookies have made the Titans short-priced favourites at $1.25 but the Wests Tigers will be desperate to get a win on the board to ease the pressure on their coach Michael Maguire, whose tenure is under the microscope just three matches into season 2022.

NRL Friday night brings two cracking matches, with the earlier match between Cronulla and Newcastle, two teams which have made bright starts to the season. Aussie bookie TopSport rates the Sharks favourites at $1.39 on their home turf.

Penrith’s superstar halfback Nathan Cleary (shoulder) is expected back for Friday night’s big match against Souths, who will be desperate to exact some measure of revenge for their heartbreaking loss in the 2021 grand final.

The Rabbitohs, under new coach Jason Demetriou, got on the board last weekend with a brutal display against the Roosters but will need to step it up again this time. Bookies have them as $3 outsiders but they also should be boosted by the return of exciting young back-line player Blake Taaffe.

The pick of the NRL Super Saturday matches is North Queensland v the Roosters, a match that could answer lingering questions about how both these teams are really tracking. The Cowboys have been great the past couple of weeks after being widely tipped to finish near last, while the Roosters have dropped two of their three games and another loss here could really have them struggling.

The round concludes on Sunday with Melbourne Storm short-priced favourites to get back on the winners’ list against Canterbury, and Parramatta hot favourites against the Dragons.

The Eels have been dealt a blow with Ray Stone, two-try hero of the round-three win against the Storm, ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

NRL Premiership odds before Round 4, 2022

The Panthers sit atop the lead and unbeaten and their odds of winning the title have firmed from $4.6 into $4, while their great rivals Melbourne drifted from $4.8 to $5 after the defeat by the Eels.

Meanwhile, the Roosters are at the crossroads, out from $5.5 to $8 to win the title, and it’s a long way back if they can’t beat the Cowboys in Townsville on Saturday night.

Parrramatta were impressive against the Storm and have made to fourth in the title betting, in from $12 to $8.5; while Souths also impressed and are in to $11.

The movers among the lesser-rated teams have been the Sharks ($17 to $14), with the Titans ($23 to $31) headed in the other direction.
