The temptation in the semi-finals under this top-eight format could be to go for the team that won the week before in an elimination final to beat the team that lost the qualifying final.

But that seldom works, and we expect Manly to bounce back hard from their 40-12 thrashing at the hands of the might Melbourne Storm and defeat the Roosters, who were more than a little lucky to get past the Gold Coast Titans 25-24.

Bookmakers agree and have made the Sea Eagles unbackable favourites to win this one at around the $1.29 mark, with the Roosters firming slightly to $3.70.

The Roosters do have a great recent record against Manly with four wins in the past five meetings between the teams. They won the only encounter so far this year 46-4 in round 1, but that was when the Sea Eagles were missing their talismanic fullback Tom Trbojevic.

Team news for Sea Eagles-Roosters final

Roosters coach Trent Robinson suffered a blow at the tribunal when hooker Sam Verrills failed in his bid to have a high tackle suspension reduced to allow him to play. Ben Marschke is the likely replacement.

The Roosters also will be missing prop Siosiua Taukeiaho, who has failed to come up from a calf injury he suffered in the opening minutes of the win over the Titans.

Meanwhile, Manly are at full strength and should regain hooker Lachlan Croker, after he was a late withdrawal against the storm with tightness in his back.

Manly Sea Eagles v Sydney Roosters tips – NRL SF 2021

Our NRL betting expert has examined the markets and found value Manly-Roosters tips:

Manly -12.5 points/match total over 44.5 points

Manly have been devastating with their attack in the second half of the season, capable of scoring long-range tries thanks to the likes of Trbojevic, speedster Jason Saab and points-scoring freak Reuben Garrick. They hit a brick wall against the Storm and could manage only two, somewhat fortunate tries. Things should get a lot easier here and they should be able to get their attack rolling again.

James Tedesco to beat Tom Trbojevic head to to head

TopSports are offering a head-to-head match-up between the two great fullbacks, with Trbojevic at $1.96 to score more tries and Tedesco at $5.20. The tie between the two is paying $2.37. We think Teddy offers value here as the Roosters’ defence will be on red alert whenever Trbojevic is anywhere near the ball.

Manly Sea Eagles v Sydney Roosters prediction 17/9/2021

Manly came storming into the finals and reached the top four which gave them a deserved double chance but it would be a disaster to drop this one and bow out in straight sets. Australian betting sites have made Des Hasler’s side hot favourites and they really should be good enough to put away a Roosters side that has had little luck with injury all season. Of course, the Roosters won the title just two seasons back but the team that will run out on Friday night is a far cry from that outstanding outfit. They will be brave as always but the Sea Eagles, with an experienced playmaker in Daly Cherry-Evans pulling the strings, should prove far too good. Our final Manly-Roosters prediction? Manly by 18 points.
