St Kilda v Carlton betting tips and prediction - AFL rd 20 preview 2021

Welcome to our St Kilda v Carlton betting tips, prediction and odds analysis for their AFL round-20 clash at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.

This clash takes on extra importance with just four rounds to go, with both teams needing a victory to keep their finals push alive, but for the Blues it will be curtains if they lose.

The Saints have lost successive games but are just two points and percentage outside the eight, while the Blues are two points further back and have lost two of their last three games.

Australian bookmakers have installed the Saints ($1.53) as favourites in the betting, the Blues ($2.52) also finding some fans among punters. The line has been set at 10.5 with TopSport Australia

St Kilda is likely to regain versatile ruckman Rowan Marshall after his injury, while Hunter Clark, Jack Higgins and Tom Highmore are also likely to come into calculations. Dan McKenzie has been unable to be considered for a second week with concussion symptoms.

Carlton has received a major boost with luckless forward Charlie Curnow to play his first match of the season, after a successful scratch match hit-out. The Blues may also rush Mitch McGovern into the team after three months out with a hamstring injury, but gun forward Harry McKay is unlikely.

St Kilda v Carlton tips

Our AFL betting expert has cast their eye over the markets and found some value St Kilda v Carlton tips:

Charlie Curnow to kick 2+ goals

Watching the Blues last week without Harry McKay was painful at times, they simply had no targets up front. While Curnow will undoubtedly be rusty, we suspect the Blues have been very very cautious with their young star and he will be ready. Expect plenty of ball to go his way, especially if McKay does not get passed fit. He will be paying around the $2.10 mark to kick 2+ goals.

Jack Steele & Brad Crouch to both get 25 possessions

Neither of the Saints’ prolific midfielders cracked 20 possessions in their loss to the Eagles last start and it’s hard to imagine a repeat here. Both will be short to get 25 possessions, but they are two legs to bank in your same game multis. Carlton ace Sam Walsh was tagged heavily at times last week and St Kilda might consider doing the same, so be wary betting on his output, although he still managed to gather 27 touches. Luke Dunstan is another who has won lots of ball for the Saints since returning from injury.

Max King v Jacob Weitering preview

Young Saints star Max King was the reason they only lost by eight points to West Coast, with his six goal haul highlighted by sure hands and hard work. This week he will face a massive test against Blues star Jacob Weitering and who takes the points, could go a long way to determining this contest. King is paying $1.36 to kick 2+ goals or if you think he can continue where he left off last week, you can can secure $12 for 5+ goals.

St Kilda v Carlton prediction 30/7/2021

St Kilda looks to have too much depth through the midfield for Carlton and we think they will effectively end the Blues’ season here. Saints forward star forward King is in fantastic form and his support cast of Tim Membrey and the returning Marshall is much more menacing than a McKay-less Blues. While we think Curnow will need to kick goals for the Blues to win, judging by the diabolical Roos performance, we just hope he gets through injury free. Our final St Kilda v Carlton prediction? Saints by 19 points.
