Swans v Giants tips and prediction for AFL elimination final on August 28, 2021

Welcome to our Sydney v GWS betting tips, prediction and odds analysis for their AFL elimination final being played on Saturday afternoon in Tasmania.

With covid running rampant in NSW, the two Sydney clubs have been forced to the University of Tasmania venue in Hobart, which will effectively put the match on neutral territory, but in good news a crowd will be allowed to attend.

Sydney and GWS have met twice this season with the results split, the Swans winning the latest clash by 26 points in round 18. This contest was dominated by Lance Franklin and Tom Papley, who both booted four goals and loom as keys again.

MORE AFL TIPS

The Swans are the bookies’ elect, priced at $1.62 to win, with the Giants ($2.30) outsiders despite their strong finish to the home and away season and players returning from injury. A $1.90 line has been set at 7.5 by Neds betting

Sydney is sweating on injuries to key midfield pair Callum Mills and Josh Kennedy, with both suffering from minor ailments that will mean they need to get through training to play. The Swans have an exceptionally short injury list with Nick Blakey and Sam Naismith the only players to be ruled out for the season.

GWS has had a horror run with injuries this season and there is little relief on the horizon, however, they still have plenty of talent on the park. Young midfielder Xavier O’Halloran was subbed out against Carlton, but they have a ready-made replacement in the highly impressive Tom Green, who has recovered from injury.

Sydney v GWS tips

Our AFL expert has examined the betting markets and found some value Sydney v GWS tips:

Lance Franklin to kick 3+ goals

The ageing superstar has been solid this year, with 48 goals, despite missing some matches. Franklin will have a good opponent, but he has risen the big occasion many times in his career and we think he will have a good day here. He is paying $2 to kick 3+ goals.

Lachie Whitfield and Jake Lloyd to both have 25 possessions

The opposing defenders are their teams’ architects in the back half and teammates look to get the ball in their hands often. While both are likely to be around the $1.20 mark to reach 25 possessions, it looks good value considering this is likely to be a contested, hard game, with tempo football a key to giving players a breather.

Toby Greene to have 110 Supercoach points

GWS has looked a different team since Greene took over as captain, with his onfield heroics as important as his hardness and ability to get under other teams’ skins. This guy is built for finals, has more than one string, including being a prolific midfielder and dominant forward, which is enough for us to back him in to score 110 Supercoach points.

Sydney v GWS prediction 28/8/2021

The Swans and Giants look to be evenly matched in this contest, with both teams having potential match winners. The Swans are easily favourites at Australian betting sites, which has us leaning towards the Giants, given we think their form-line is stronger and they appear to have a harder edge through the midfield, especially if Mills or Kennedy, or worse both, don’t play. Our final Sydney v GWS prediction? Giants by 11 points.
