Australia v Wales, Georgia v Uruguay betting tips, odds, predictions – Rugby World Cup 2019, September 29

Wales emerge as contenders for Rugby World Cup

Welcome to our betting previews for match-day nine of the Rugby World Cup, which features the pivotal clash between Wales and Australia, which will likely decide the winner of Pool D.
It is crucial for the two teams as the winners will most likely avoid a tough quarter-final against the red-hot England side; a likely match-up instead for the top team in Pool D is likely to be the unpredictable France.
Wales ($13) and Australia ($19) are both extremely easy in betting to win the World Cup, but if you are keen on either now is the time to strike. The winner between the Wallabies and Wales will shorten up considerably in overall betting as they will have a great chance of reaching the semis at least.
Match-day nine’s other clash also offers intrigue with the tough Georgia up against part-timers Uruguay, who produced the upset of the Rugby World Cup to date with their stunning win against Fiji. The big question is whether they can back that up against probably the best second-tier team in Europe.
Check out our team previews to get the latest form, our tips for leading try-scorer from each team and where we think they will finish in the tournament.

Head to head odds: Georgia $1.13, Uruguay $5.70
Handicap line odds: Georgia (-15.5 points) $1.91, Uruguay (+15.5 points) + $1.91
Georgia v Uruguay prediction: Uruguay’s win was quite incredible given how Fiji had pushed Australia so hard in their opener. However, we are not sure they can back it up off the short break and will be on Georgia in this one. They showed real resilience despite falling short against Wales and they have been far better for longer than the Uruguayans.

Best bets for Georgia v Uruguay RWC2019 match

Georgia half-time/full-time double at $1.32

Yes, skinny odds here but we think it’s a great anchor leg for a multi-bet.

Georgia to win by 11-20 points

A more obscure option here, but most of the leading bookies we recommend will be offering similar points margins. This option is paying around the $3.50 mark with William Hill. We expected fairly tight clash with the tighter defence of the Georgians to win out in the end.

Match 17: Pool D – Australia v Wales

Kick-off: 4.45pm local time (GMT +9)
Venue: Tokyo Stadium
Previous World Cup 2019 matches:
Australia:
Australia 39 (Tolu Latu 2, Reece Hodge, Michael Hooper, Samu Kerevi, Marika Koroibete tries; Matt To’omua 2, Christian Leali’ifano cons, Hodge pen) d Fiji 21 (Waisea Nayacalevu, Peceli Yato tries; Ben Volavola con, 3 pens). Referee: Ben O’Keeffe.
Wales: Wales 43 (Jonathan Davies, Justin Tipuric, Josh Adams, Liam Williams, Tomos Williams, George North tries; Dan Biggar 4 cons, 1 pen, Leigh Halfpenny con) d Georgia 14 (Shalva Mamukashvili, Levan Chilachava; Tedo Abzhandadze 2 cons). Referee: Luke Pearce.

Head to head odds: Australia $2.20, Wales $1.67
Handicap line odds: Australia (+2.5 points) $1.91, Wales (-2.5 points) $1.91
Australia v Wales prediction: Wales have been well backed for this massive encounter and with good reason. The Wallabies have shuffled the decks and gone back to Bernard Foley at fly-half, which is something of a surprise. As previous dual winners of the title many expect Australia to click into gear at some stage, but we feel the Welsh will be just too strong in the forwards here in a tense and tight encounter.

Best bets for Australia v Wales RWC2019 match

Wales to win -2.5 points at $1.91

It’s not much of a stretch to think if Wales do win it will be a little more comfortable than two points. They are among the best teams in the northern hemisphere. They have their own off-field issues but if they remain focused no reason they can’t be contenders for the title. Australia, on exposed form anyway, are a little way behind New Zealand and South Africa in the south. It would take a sizeable leap of faith to suggest they could lift the trophy. If you are a believer dive in now before this game at the $19! Not for us though.

George North anytime try-scorer at $3

The Welsh whiz got on the board in the opening game against Georgia and we are happy to be on him again. North was among our tips to be the leading overall try-scorer in the tournament and a try here would keep him in the hunt. Come on, big fella.
