Australian Open men’s final: Djokovic v Thiem betting update and tips

Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic is at short odds with sportsbooks to make it a perfect eight from eight when he faces Austrian Dominic Thiem in the final of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Sunday evening.
But here at the WGL we believe Thiem has a genuine chance of becoming the first person to beat Djokovic in an Australian Open final.
No longer is the powerhouse Austrian considered just a claycourt specialist. Thiem has emerged as the man most likely to unseat the big three of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
And he has served his apprenticeship with two runners-up finish to the claycourt maestro Nadal in the past two years at Roland Garros.
Even more than that, he has proved his hardcourt bona fides with two titles late in 2019 as well as his spectacular run to the final here where along the way he brought down Nadal in the quarters.
To be fair Djokovic is dominant in Melbourne, and he has cruised through to this point with barely a hitch, but maybe that lack of a massive test so far will leave him a little underdone for the clash with the power-hitting Thiem.
There is little doubt Thiem is playing the tennis of his life and we can’t wait to see whether that’s enough to take down another legend come Sunday evening.
Read on to find out our betting tips for the 2020 Australian Open men’s final at Melbourne Park.

Tips for Australian Open men’s final

Thiem to win 3 sets to 1 at $9

In for a penny, in for a pound. If like us you believe Thiem can upset the champ, then this wager is in play as it would seem so unlikely that Thiem can steamroll the great Serb in straight sets. A quick glance at the recent clashes between the two reveals Djokovic won’t hold too many fears for his younger opponent. Thiem has won four of the past five clashes between the two, including in the pressure-cooker of a grand slam at the French Open and also on a hardcourt.

Total games overs 39.5 at $2

We really like this wager, although the point here is that we are betting the match goes longer than three sets.

Australian Open men’s final predictions

The Djokovic-Thiem final promises to be epic. Could this be the moment that generation next takes charge? We predicted before the tournament that it would be, but there is a large obstacle by the name of Novak standing in the way of our prediction coming true. Either way, this is a must watch match for the tennis aficionado and we will be glued to the action, cheering for the underdog. Good punting.
