Canada World Cup Rugby betting preview

Canada - Rugby World Cup 2019 betting preview

Canada are at least 1000-1 to win the Rugby World Cup with many online betting sites and that is fair enough. To be blunt Les Rouges have no chance of even making it past the group stage.

There is no shame in that, given the Canadians have drawn probably the toughest group, which features not only two teams heavily favoured to win the tournament in New Zealand and South Africa, but also the tough Italy team and an improving Namibia outfit.

Where Canada will finish in the 2019 Rugby World Cup

WGL prediction: Eliminated in group stage. We expect Canada to score one win in their group, against Namibia who they have beaten in their only two previous meetings. They should be competitive at least against Italy, and will simply hope to limit the damage against the All Blacks and Springboks.

Previous best World Cup result: Quarter-final 1991

Leading try-scorer prediction for Canada

D.T.H van der Merwe: Canada won’t be scoring enough tries for any of their players to be in the hunt for leading try-scorer for the tournament. But veteran South Africa-born winger Daniel Tailliferre Hauman van der Merwe (better known as D.T.H van der Merwe) is their greatest try-scorer with 38 in 57 Tests. He certainly can find the try-line and is a great chance to score a few tries in Canada’s group matches. Betting of course will be available on whether or not certain players will score, and also on first try-scorer and anytime try-scorer in each match.

Canada predictions – Can the Canucks spring an upset?

Looking at the head-to-heads between the teams and the odds put our by the top betting sites, the Canadians must be some sort of chance of upstaging Italy, though it must be remembered their two wins against the Italians came in 1983 and 2000. Italy have come a long way since those days and we would be shocked if they slipped up against Canada here. We expect Canada to win against Namibia but they will most likely cop a thrashing off the powerful New Zealand and South Africa teams. Overall bet on Canada at the Rugby World Cup at your own risk.
