NRL Sunday: Sharks v Warriors betting tips, prediction & odds, round 18, 2020

NRL round 13: Dragons v Broncos

Welcome to our Cronulla Sutherland Sharks v New Zealand Warriors match preview, prediction and odds update for their NRL clash at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Sunday, September 13.

We think this is the better match of the two on Sunday, with the earlier match pitting the second-placed Melbourne Storm against the North Queensland Cowboys at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

This Sharks-Warriors clash is eighth against 11th and is a last chance for the Warriors to stay alive in their hunt for a shock finals berth. It’s very unlikely as they would be relying on the Sharks losing their last three games (v Warriors, Roosters, Raiders) and the Warriors winning their last three against the Sharks, Raiders and Sea Eagles.

Nonetheless, the Sharks need to win this game to shore up their spot and they should do so if they are to be a serious threat in any finals matches.

Cronulla have won six of their past seven matches against the Warriors, winning the past couple in dashing fashion: 42-16 in round 23 last season and then 46-10 in round 10 this season when the Sharks scored four tries in each half.

The Sharks regain a few key players for this match but they have also lost a couple of their big guns to suspension. Halfback Chad Townsend (shoulder charge) and lock Wade Graham (dangerous throw) have been banned for three and two weeks respectively.

On the positive side, Cronulla regain playmaker Shaun Johnson (groin/hamstring), winger Sione Katoa and prop Andrew Fifita, who was named on the pine.

The Warriors regain the two players, George Jennings and Daniel Alvaro, they have on loan from Parramatta, who were not allowed to play against the Eels last weekend. They replace winger Gerard Beale and forward Josh Curran.

Sharks v Warriors free betting tips

Below our NRL betting expert has highlighted his free Cronulla-NZ Warriors betting tips.

Cronulla -4.5 points/match total over 44.5

This doubles option is paying $3.65 with leading bookmaker Unibet. The Sharks have had no problem scoring points this season, but they have had a big problem stopping them. Losing Townsend and Graham hurts but Johnson in is massive given his attacking abilities. We expect the Sharks to lock up a top-eight spot with a comfortable win in a high-scoring game.

Sione Katoa to score two or more tries

The Sharks winger is back in action and has already scored 14 tries from 16 matches this season. Katoa needs a few here to get back in the race for the leading try-scorer in the NRL. He was three behind leader David Nofoaluma at the time of writing.

Cronulla Sharks v New Zealand Warriors prediction 13-9-2020

Cronulla are not the most reliable of teams in 2020, but when they play some football they are scintillating. The Warriors also can really score some exceptional tries, as they showed against the Eels last weekend with a couple of contenders for try of the year. We expect and entertaining contest, but the Sharks are a little bit more accomplished in our book. Our Sharks v Warriors prediction: Cronulla by 10 points.
