South Africa v England 1st Twenty20: betting tips, prediction & odds

T20 South Africa v England betting tips and prediction

Welcome to our South Africa v England betting tips, winner prediction and odds analysis for the opening Twenty20 International at Newlands Stadium, Cape Town, on Friday.

England’s six-match limited-over tour of South Africa includes three T20 internationals and three one-day internationals, with all matches played either at Newlands Stadium or Boland Park, Paarl, also in the Western Cape.

Of course, England are the reigning world champions in the 50-over format, and also are ranked second in the ICC T20 standings behind Australia, while South Africa are fifth in both formats.

South Africa and England played a fantastic limited-overs series in South Africa early this year following their Test series. England won the T20 series 2-1 and the ODI series finished 1-1 with one wash-out.

England is a 2/3 favourite to defeat South Africa in this clash, with the Proteas priced at 13/10 to cause a boilover in the betting.

This tour is England’s first since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, though they are coming off series at home against Ireland, Pakistan and old foes Australia.

England won the three-match T20 series against Australia 2-1 before losing the ODI series 2-1, so they are battle-hardened for what is to come in South Africa, despite biosecurity protocols making for a difficult preparation.

Interestingly, they have included superstar all-rounder Ben Stokes, paceman Jofra Archer and Sam Curran for the T20s but they will be rested for the 50-over matches after hectic Indian Premier League campaigns.

Meanwhile, the Proteas have not played an international match since they played Australia at home in T20 and ODI series in late February/early March. They lost the T20 series 2-1 but were impressive in beating Australia 3-0 in the one-dayers.

South Africa have had to quarantine several players in the lead-up to these matches after COVID-19 scares. Despite their lack of international cricket, they had several outstanding performers in the recent IPL led by veteran bowler Kagiso Rabada, fellow paceman Anrich Nortje as well as ace wicketkeeper-opener Quinton de Kock, who was outstanding when the teams clashed earlier this year.

South Africa v England betting tips

Our cricket tipsters have examined the odds and found several Proteas v England tips for Friday’s T20 opener.

South Africa to win at $2.31

The Proteas are at something of a crossroads with their national team but they always manage to put out a powerful limited-overs unit. All it will take is for the dashing captain Quinton de Kock and the like to catch fire and they are right in this, especially on home soil. They look the value bet in the first match.

Quinton de Kock man of match at $9

The little left-handed powerhouse is a threat in all cricket but especially in the shortest form of the game. De Kock was a key player as the Mumbai Indians won their fifth title in the IPL recently. He can take a game away from the opposition more quickly than almost any player in the game.

South Africa v England prediction 27/11/2020

We really like the look of this South African side with quality performers such as Faf du Plessis and Kagiso Rabada back in the mix. The addition of du Plessis really gives the top order a much tougher look, while Rabada and Anrich Nortje bowled the Delhi Capitals all the way to the IPL final. England have plenty of batting firepower but at the odds we have to go with the Proteas at home in the opening match. Our final South Africa v England prediction: South Africa by six wickets/20 runs.
