Malta Gaming Authority issues warning about misleading casino
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has issued a public warning distancing itself from the website jackpotcitycasino-uk.uk, stating the operator has no connection to the regulator and is falsely claiming to hold an MGA licence.
In a statement, the regulator said any references on the site suggesting it is authorised or licensed by the Maltese Authority are “false and misleading,” raising concerns over potential consumer deception.
The MGA urged players to verify an operator’s licensing status before engaging with any gambling platform, warning that unlicensed entities operate outside of its regulatory framework. Licensed operators are required to meet strict compliance standards designed to protect consumers, including safeguards around player funds, fair gaming, and responsible gambling measures.
By contrast, the authority stressed that transactions with unregulated platforms carry significant risk, as they are not subject to oversight or enforcement.
The warning forms part of the MGA’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on unauthorised operators misrepresenting their regulatory status, particularly as fraudulent sites continue to target players using the branding of established regulators.
On this occasion the fraudulent URL is imitating popular online casino JackpotCityCasino.com, which is a Malta-licensed gambling website, and highlights just how important it is for those gambling online to do their homework.
Several weeks ago the MGA warned consumers about several online casinos targeting players, fraudulently claiming to be licensed by the popular regulator, but upon further investigation were displaying expired licensing information from defunct gambling sites.
Many of the world’s top online casinos and betting sites are licensed in Malta.
