MGA warns seven websites falsely claim Malta licences
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has issued a public warning after identifying seven websites that falsely claim to hold gaming licences issued by the regulator.
In a notice published this week, the MGA said it has no connection with the following websites:
- spinlander.nu
- coldfootball.com
- wtboxers.com
- smartsportsdaily.com
- blackjack.com
- duelgp.com
- 56pkcasino.com
According to the regulator, any reference on these websites suggesting they are licensed or authorised by the MGA is “false and misleading.”
The warning serves as a reminder that displaying the MGA’s name or logo does not necessarily mean an operator is licensed by the gambling regulator.
The authority urged consumers to verify an operator’s license status before using its services, noting that only authorised gambling sites are required to comply with Malta’s regulatory framework and consumer protection requirements.
“The MGA would like to remind consumers not to utilise services provided by an entity unless they have ascertained that the entity in question is authorised to provide such services by the MGA,” the regulator said.
It added that licensed operators are subject to strict legal obligations designed to protect consumers, while unlicensed gambling sites operate outside the Maltese regulatory framework.
“The activities of unlicensed entities are unregulated and do not provide the necessary safeguards delineated by virtue of the framework, making transactions with such entities risky for consumers,” the MGA said.
The latest warning is part of the MGA’s ongoing efforts to combat the misuse of its name by offshore gambling websites seeking to gain credibility by falsely claiming to hold a Maltese licence.
