Australia v Samoa betting tips & prediction
Welcome to our Australia v Samoa betting tips and prediction for their Rugby League World Cup semi-final at Allianz Stadium in Sydney on Sunday, November 8.
Australia are 1.36 favourites to advance to another World Cup final, with Samoa paying 3.10 to cause an upset. The Kangaroos are giving away a 7.5-point start in the handicap market, with the total points line set at 41.5 by Australian betting sites.
The defending champions have progressed through the tournament undefeated, but have hardly looked invincible. Australia opened with a narrow victory over New Zealand before overcoming Fiji and thrashing Cook Islands 66-6 in their final group match.
Samoa have been one of the tournament’s most entertaining teams, comfortably defeating France and Papua New Guinea before suffering a heartbreaking 20-18 defeat to Tonga. The Samoans actually scored four tries to three in that clash, with poor goal kicking ultimately proving costly.
Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has retained the same starting 13 that demolished Cook Islands, with Reece Walsh keeping the fullback position ahead of James Tedesco. Tom Dearden will again partner Cameron Munster in the halves, completing an all-Queensland spine alongside Walsh and Harry Grant.
Dearden believes the combination is ready to fire after playing alongside his teammates at State of Origin level.
“I’ve played a bit of footy with Munster now, and also Harry at nine and Walshy at the back, so I think the connection and knowing where each other will be is pretty good,” Dearden told NRL.com.
Samoa have been forced into a significant change, with Chanel Harris-Tavita ruled out through injury. Ronald Volkman replaces him at five-eighth alongside captain Jarome Luai, while Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Stephen Crichton and Brian To’o headline an exceptionally dangerous backline.
The biggest concern for Australia is their forward pack, which has struggled to dominate physically against the tournament’s stronger opponents. Samoa have the size and aggression to exploit that weakness, particularly with Junior Paulo, Francis Molo and Spencer Leniu leading the charge.
The winner will advance to the World Cup final against either New Zealand or Tonga, with the Kangaroos attempting to defend the title they won by defeating Samoa 30-10 in the 2022 decider.

Australia v Samoa betting tips
WGL’s rugby league betting expert has assessed the markets and found some Australia v Samoa betting tips worth considering:
Samoa +7.5 points
Australia deserve favouritism, but we think the bookmakers are underestimating Samoa’s chances of keeping this close. The Kangaroos have struggled to dominate through the middle against quality opposition, and Samoa possess enough firepower to trouble them for the full 80 minutes. The Pacific Islanders were desperately unlucky against Tonga, scoring more tries than their opponents, and have the attacking weapons to expose Australia’s defence. We expect the Kangaroos to find a way to win, but Samoa +7.5 points looks the better option. There is also some appeal in Samoa at 3.10 for those chasing an upset, but that won’t be us.
Tom Trbojevic anytime try-scorer
Trbojevic has been installed as the shortest-priced anytime try-scorer in the match, and it is easy to understand why. The powerful Manly star has crossed the line in each of his past three appearances, and his ability to finish attacking movements makes him a constant threat on the wing. With Walsh, Munster and Dearden providing the creativity, Trbojevic should receive opportunities to add to his impressive scoring record. The 1.68 available with betting sites is not enormous, but he looks one of Australia’s most likely try-scorers. If you want an option offering more value Tino Fa’asuamaleaui scored twice against the Cook Islands and is priced at around the 5.00 quote to score against Samoa.
Brian To’o anytime try-scorer
We like the value on Samoa’s powerful winger, who crossed twice against Tonga and has established himself as one of the most reliable finishers in rugby league. To’o is exceptionally difficult to stop close to the line, and his combination with the Samoan outside backs should provide opportunities against an Australian defence that has not always looked convincing. With Samoa expected to enjoy periods of attacking pressure, To’o looks a strong chance of crossing at least once. At 2.20, he represents better value than several of the shorter-priced Australian backs.
Australia v Samoa prediction
Australia have the superior playmaking spine and enough individual brilliance to win this semi-final, but we expect Samoa to make life extremely difficult. The Kangaroos have been vulnerable through the middle against stronger opposition, and Samoa have the forwards and attacking talent to exploit that weakness. The absence of Harris-Tavita is a setback for Samoa, particularly against an Australian side with so much experience in the key positions. We expect a physical contest that remains close until the final stages, with Australia’s superior execution and discipline ultimately proving decisive. Our final Australia v Samoa prediction? Australia 24 defeat Samoa 18.
