NRL Magic Round: Rabbitohs v Dolphins betting tips
It’s NRL Magic Round, meaning all eight games in round 11 are played at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Magic Round has proved a popular initiative with fans, and it also offers plenty of insights into how the teams are shaping up as the midway point of the season, as well as the State of Origin series, approaches.
After doing well out of the Dolphins-Bulldogs match last weekend, we have again looked at the Redcliffe team’s match this weekend, against the high-flying Rabbitohs. The Bunnies are listed as the home team, but make no mistake that the Dolphins are more comfortable at Suncorp Stadium, which is their second home.
Of course, Souths coach Wayne Bennett was the Dolphins inaugural coach and he handed over the reins there to Kristian Woolf, so nearly all the cards are on the table. The master Bennett though usually keeps a couple of tricks up his sleeve. You don’t get to coach for 50 years at the highest level and win seven titles without some sort of edge.
Australian betting sites have made the Dolphins firm favourites for this one, but we are not so sure. Your correspondent has always had a soft spot for the Bunnies and they have kept surprising me this year.
Rabbitohs v Dolphins team news
The Rabbitohs regain their superstar Latrell Mitchell (back), meaning Wagga product Latrell Siegwalt, who made such an outstanding debut in the win over the Sharks, moves to the pine. They have lost NRL record try-scorer Alex Johnston (knee), with his replacement Bayleigh Bentley-Hape, who plays his first top-grade game of the season.
The Dolphins may regain Kurt Donoghoe from a hamstring issue, though they have named the same 13 who started against the Bulldogs. Overall the Dolphins have one of the healthiest lists in the league as they chase a maiden finals spot.

Rabbitohs v Dolphins betting tips
Rabbitohs have won three of their five matches aganst the Dolphins and four of the five have been high-scoring bonanzas. We should expect more of the same though the weather has been rainy and cold (for Queensland at least) in the lead-up to Magic Round.
We will see a couple of wonderful battles in the centres with Campbell Graham and Latrell Mitchell for Souths up against Jack Bostock and the rampant Herbie Farnworth. We just feel this week that the Dolphins have a more settled back line.
But no doubt this is a match even the neutral fans could get excited about. Souths needs to lean a little more heavily on their defence this time, so we should not see a repeat of their 40-30 win when the teams met earlier this NRL season.

Dolphins by 4 points.

- Dolphins to win/match total under 55.5 points at $3.50 with Australian betting sites.
- Herbie Farnworth anytime try-scorer at $2.20.
