Ecuador are the second favourites to win Group E at 5.50 and may be the most tactically disciplined side in the section, with their defensive efforts well organised by Willian Pacho and Piero Hincapié. Sebastian Beccacece’s team conceded only five goals across 18 CONMEBOL qualifying matches and look perfectly built for low-scoring tournament football.
Ivory Coast, priced at 8.00 to top the group, have enough athleticism and attacking quality to trouble anyone. Amad Diallo, Simon Adingra and Evann Guessand give Les Elephants genuine pace in transition, while Franck Kessie and Ibrahim Sangare provide steel in the midfield.
Curacao are outsiders at 101.00 to win Group E, but the Caribbean nation have already made history. Dick Advocaat’s side stunned CONCACAF qualifying and now get the chance to test themselves against some of the world’s best teams.
Lets take a deep dive into each Group E team’s prospects, including their captains, coaches, past World Cup results, predicted lineups and much more.

Group E Squads
🇩🇪 Germany
- Manager: Julian Nagelsmann
- Captain: Joshua Kimmich
- Group E winner odds: 1.25
- Qualify Group E odds: 1.03
Germany enter Group E under real pressure after crashing out in the group stage at the last two World Cups, but this version of Die Mannschaft looks far more dynamic. Nagelsmann has built the side around Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, giving Germany a more direct and unpredictable attacking edge than previous tournament teams. Captain Joshua Kimmich’s role drifting inside from right-back remains central to the build-up play, while Kai Havertz leads the line with support from Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry. Germany should dominate most matches in this section, although defensive transitions remain a concern against quicker opponents like Ivory Coast. Still, the Germans clearly have the strongest squad and most attacking quality in Group E. The Germans dropped a bombshell with their selection for the World Cup, with veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer recalled the national setup for the World Cup, with the Bayern Munich star having retired from international football after Euro 2024.

🇪🇨 Ecuador
- Manager: Sebastian Beccacece
- Captain: Enner Valencia
- Group E winner odds: 5.50
- Qualify Group E odds: 1.55
Ecuador may not be flashy, but they look perfectly suited to tournament football. Beccacece has built one of the hardest teams in world football to break down, with Ecuador conceding only five goals throughout CONMEBOL qualifying. Moises Caicedo is the engine of the team, while Piero Hincapie, Willian Pacho and Pervis Estupinan give La Tri genuine quality at the back. The concern is whether they can consistently score enough goals against stronger opposition. Veteran striker Enner Valencia remains their main attacking reference point, and Ecuador will need support from Gonzalo Plata and Nilson Angulo if they are to finish above Ivory Coast. They may not dominate matches, but Ecuador are very capable of grinding their way into the knockout stage. We’re willing to write Ecuador off as a legit option of winning Group E, while their 91.00 odds of winning the tournament echo our sentiment of a deep run being unlikely.

🇨🇮 Ivory Coast
- Manager: Emerse Fae
- Captain: Franck Kessie
- Group E winner odds: 8.00
- Qualify Group E odds: 2.00
Ivory Coast return to the World Cup after a 12-year absence and arrive in North America with confidence and recent success following their dramatic 2024 Africa Cup of Nations triumph. They did lose to Egypt in the quarter finals of the 2025 edition, but look more settled heading in the World Cup. Emerse Fae has built a side around power, pace and direct attacking football, with Franck Kessie and Ibrahim Sangare providing physicality in midfield while Amad Diallo, Simon Adingra and Evann Guessand stretch teams out wide. Les Elephants are at their best when matches become transitional and chaotic, although they can sometimes struggle against teams that force them into patient positional football. The clash with Ecuador could decide second place in Group E, while their game against Curacao may become crucial for goal difference. Ivory Coast have enough athleticism and attacking quality — wth the likes of Utrecht star Sébastien Haller and Salzburg ace Karim Konaté — to trouble the Germans and win this group if they can remain unflustered defensively.

🇨🇼 Curacao
- Manager: Dick Advocaat
- Captain: Leandro Bacuna
- Group E winner odds: 101.00
- Qualify Group E odds: 17.00
Curacao are the fairytale story of Group E after becoming the smallest nation ever to qualify for a FIFA World Cup. Dick Advocaat guided the Caribbean side through a difficult CONCACAF qualifying path built around defensive structure, physicality and Dutch-based technical talent. Leandro Bacuna remains the emotional leader of the side, while players like Tahith Chong, Kenji Gorre and Jurgen Locadia provide attacking experience from European football. Curacao will likely spend long periods defending in this group, particularly against Germany and Ecuador, but they have already proven they are capable of frustrating stronger teams. Their realistic aim will be avoiding heavy defeats and trying to steal a point that could disrupt the qualification race. If the Bacuna brothers (Leandro and Juninho) fire, Curacao could cause some fireworks.

🇩🇪 Germany v 🇨🇼 Curacao
(First time opponents and the biggest mismatch in Group E on paper)
Germany should dominate this match from start to finish. Curacao will try to make the game physical and slow the tempo down, but the movement of Musiala, Wirtz and Havertz could overwhelm the Caribbean side. The two nations have never met before and anything other than a comfortable Germany win would be one of the shocks of the tournament. These two nations have never faced each other before.
🇨🇮 Ivory Coast v 🇪🇨 Ecuador
(Potentially the key match in the race for second place)
This feels like the pivotal game in Group E. Ecuador’s defensive organisation will clash with Ivory Coast’s pace and direct attacking style, while the midfield battle between Caicedo, Kessie and Sangare could decide the contest. Ecuador may be more tactically disciplined, but Ivory Coast have enough explosiveness to turn the game in seconds. Another first time match-up, further complicates this for bettors.
🇩🇪 Germany v 🇨🇮 Ivory Coast
(Germany’s control against Ivory Coast’s athleticism)
Ivory Coast may be the most dangerous opponent Germany face in the group because of their speed in transition. If the Germans leave space behind David Raum or push too aggressively forward, players like Diallo and Adingra could create problems quickly. Germany should still control possession, but this may not be comfortable. Ivory Coast and Germany have played once before, in 2009, with it ending in a 2-2 draw.
🇪🇨 Ecuador v 🇨🇼 Curacao
(A must-win match for Ecuador’s qualification hopes)
Ecuador will expect to win this game and may need to do so comfortably if goal difference becomes important. Curacao will defend deep and compete aggressively, but Ecuador’s midfield control through Caicedo and Franco should eventually create enough chances for Valencia and Plata. These two nations have never clashed in an international before.
🇨🇼 Curacao v 🇨🇮 Ivory Coast
(Goal difference could become critical here)
Ivory Coast will likely target this game as an opportunity to improve their goal difference. Curacao are organised and resilient, but the athleticism and pace of Les Elephants should eventually create openings. If Ivory Coast can score early, this could become a very difficult night for the tournament debutants. It will be the first time these teams have played each other.
🇪🇨 Ecuador v 🇩🇪 Germany
(Played previously in the 2006 World Cup, and Germany will again be favoured)
Ecuador’s defensive shape could frustrate Germany more than any other team in Group E. The South Americans are comfortable sitting compact and forcing opponents wide, but they may struggle to generate enough attacking threat to truly pressure Die Mannschaft. Germany should still edge the contest through superior creativity and technical quality. These two teams have played twice before, in 2006 and 2013, with the Germans winning both fixtures.
World Cup Group E prediction & best bet
Germany clearly deserve to be favourites in Group E. Nagelsmann has revitalised the national side, and the attacking combination of Musiala, Wirtz and Havertz should be too much for the rest of the section. The Germans still have defensive vulnerabilities, but their technical superiority gives them a strong edge.
Ecuador are our pick to finish second because they look more reliable and tactically balanced than Ivory Coast across three group matches. Les Elephants may be more explosive and entertaining, but Ecuador’s defensive structure feels better suited to tournament football. Curacao have already achieved something historic by qualifying, but this looks an extremely difficult group for them.
The most logical Group E order is Germany first, Ecuador second, Ivory Coast third and Curacao fourth. Ivory Coast may still remain alive as a possible best third-placed team, but Germany and Ecuador look the safest top-two pairing.
