Scottsville racing tips, form and preview for Sunday, August 22
Our Hollywoodbets Scottsville tips, form and preview focus on a competitive eight-race card on Sunday, with Cowboy Country looking to follow up after landing a well-backed betting coup over the course and distance last time out.
MORE: South African horse racing
Cowboy Country was backed from 16-1 into 4-1 before scoring impressively at Scottsville last time, with Jabu Jacobs timing his challenge perfectly aboard Tony Rivalland’s charge. Serino Moodley takes over on Sunday when the lightly raced gelding tackles stronger opposition in the Middle Stakes over 1200m, but he has always shown ability and looks capable of following up.
Mike Miller provides two of the dangers with Scottsville specialist Licence To Thrill and the filly Infinity Edge, while top-weight Soho Star has an excellent record over the course and distance and should again be prominent. Earlier, Barry’s Boy and Enjoy The Ride look set for another close battle in the opener after only a neck separated them last time behind Camogie.
Highveld visitor Sistership is an interesting contender in Race 2 for Alec Laird after showing promise in her first two starts, while Periwinkle could be difficult to beat in the opening leg of the Pick 6 after an encouraging debut over a mile. Lovescomeknocking has strong course-and-distance claims in Race 4, while the sixth shapes as one of the most competitive handicaps on the programme. Uzwano gets another opportunity to break through in Race 7 before Laird’s Ideal Summer attempts to round out the afternoon from an ideal draw in the finale.
Below is our free form analysis and racing tips for all eight races at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.
Race 1
Hollywoodbets Scottsville Welcomes You Mdn Plate
BARRY’S BOY (6) has produced three promising performances on the poly since arriving in KZN and came from a long way back when narrowly failing to catch pacemaker CAMOGIE last time. The switch to turf could see him go one better and is still at decent odds with HollywoodBets (Hollywoodbets review). ENJOY THE RIDE (7) stayed on strongly behind CAMOGIE in the same race and, with only a neck separating him from BARRY’S BOY, there should again be little between the pair. KIARTAY (12) was running on late over the course and distance last time and may now be coming to hand. ANNUSHKA’S PRIDE (1) is a well-bred first-timer arriving from the Eastern Cape and is worth following in the betting.
Our tip: 6-7-12-1
Race 2
Gallop Tv Mdn Plate (F & M)
Highveld visitor SISTERSHIP (3) is a late-starting four-year-old but has shown plenty of promise in her first two outings and should run a big race in a wide-open contest. SECRET AMBITION (10) has not finished far away in either of her two starts and the form from her latest outing has held up reasonably well. She looks the pick of Mike Miller’s runners. NEW CHAPTER (13) performed below expectations on debut but raced very green and should benefit significantly from that experience. MAD ABOUT YOU (6) started at long odds over the course and distance on debut but was not beaten far, and good improvement can be expected.
Our tip: 3-10-13-6
Race 3

PERIWINKLE (6) made a smart start to her career when finishing a good third behind HAZEL GREEN over a mile and should improve a length or two with that experience behind her. She looks the one to beat in what could otherwise prove a tricky maiden. PINK SKIES (4) was disappointing last time after two promising previous efforts and, if that run is ignored, she must have a strong winning chance. LADY JEROME (3) was not far away last time and should appreciate the step up in trip. VIVIEN (5) is a well-bred first-timer from the Sean Tarry stable and should be watched closely in the betting at ZA betting sites.
Our tip: 6-4-3-5
Race 4
In The Box Seat Podcast Brought To You By Gallop Tv Mdn Plate (F & M)
LOVESCOMESKNOCKING (5) is a lightly raced four-year-old whose best performance came over the course and distance when beaten less than a length at long odds. She goes well for this rider and should be right there at the finish. PREDATOR’S CROWN (4) has produced three promising efforts from as many starts, finishing close up on each occasion, and the step up in trip could prove ideal. TEARS OF THE SUN (2) has performed well over the course and distance and rates a strong winning chance. CELTIC MOON (1) has contested two sprints to begin her career and should be much better suited by this trip, making her one to monitor in the betting.
Our tip: 5-4-2-1
Race 5

COWBOY COUNTRY (5) landed a well-backed coup when winning impressively over the course and distance last time. The lightly raced gelding showed plenty of ability early in his career and, although stepping into stronger company here, looks capable of following up. LICENCE TO THRILL (2) is something of a Hollywoodbets Scottsville specialist and his consistency should ensure another strong performance. INFINITY EDGE (4) gives Mike Miller another lively chance and deserves respect, while SOHO STAR (7) shoulders top weight but is seldom far away and boasts an excellent record over the course and distance. MASTER JOSH (1) has done most of his recent racing on the poly and may prefer a furlong shorter, but he could control the race from the front and should not be completely dismissed.
Our tip: 5-2-4-7
Race 6
Lucky Fish Turf Luck Class 4
This is a highly competitive handicap, but FIRE CHIEF (10) could be the one to follow after earning a hefty rating for finishing a close-up seventh in feature company. He looks a promising type and can justify the handicapper’s assessment. SCOTS WAE HAE (6) was a recent maiden winner and appears to have plenty of upside. This is considerably stronger company, but he looks capable of making the step up. AZZURRI (7) found COWBOY COUNTRY too strong last time and the performance of that rival in Race 5 could provide an excellent guide to his prospects. SON OF RAFEEF (9) is useful on his day and the application of first-time blinkers could bring out his best. TOMMY ATKINS (4) was a beaten favourite in useful company at his first start out of the maidens and returns from a lengthy break. With only three starts behind him, the Highveld visitor remains one to watch.
Our tip: 10-6-7-9
Race 7
Tote For The Win Middle Stakes
UZWANO (2) has been knocking on the door for some time and gets another excellent opportunity here. Gavin Lerena knows him well and, from a favourable draw, he should enjoy the run of the race. BEYOND ALL DOUBT (4) is lightly raced and has finished outside the money only once in five starts. The step up in trip should suit and there could still be plenty of improvement to come. CITY OF LOVE (8) tackles a mile for the first time after producing useful sprint form and will be a serious contender if seeing out the extra distance. GRAND OCCASION (5) is much better than her latest performance suggests, has already won over the course and distance and carries a handy galloping weight.
Our tip: 2-4-8-5
Race 8
Hollywoodbets Bright Future Class 4
IDEAL SUMMER (1) has improved with each outing since being fitted with blinkers and Calvin Habib retains the ride. From the inside draw, he should enjoy every opportunity to run a forward race. CHARLIE BUCKET (7) makes his first appearance for his new stable after Paddy Kruyer returned to Cape Town. The gelding has won his last two starts in good style since being fitted with a compression mask and is capable of completing the hat-trick. PRESSURE POINT (8) was not far behind WICCAN WARRIOR at his first start out of the maidens and that form has subsequently worked out well. With a claiming apprentice aboard, he could provide the surprise package. MASTER BOMBER (9) finished runner-up to CHARLIE BUCKET last time and is now 1kg better off at the weights, which should enable him to finish closer.
