This is the WGL’s South Africa v Australia betting tips and odds update for the T20 World Cup Women’s second semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday, March 5.
This is the second of two semi-finals at the SCG and the winners will advance to the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, March 8.
If the semi-finals are washed out, India and South Africa would advance to the final as the top teams from Groups A and B.
All the talk leading up to the South Africa-Australia semi-final has been around the loss of champion all-rounder Ellyse Perry for the Australians.
Perry suffered a hamstring strain during the Australians’ win over New Zealand on Monday, but the good news for the home team, hot favourites to win the tournament, is that they have plenty of depth.
In four previous T20 meetings between these teams, Australia have won all four comfortably, although they have not clashed since the 2018 T20 World Cup.
Australia are deserved favourites here as the No.1-ranked team in all formats of the women’s game and their biggest danger in this clash could be the poor Sydney weather forecast.

In the absence of Perry, step up Ash Gardner as Australia’s star all-rounder. Gardener is also rated in the top 10 all-rounders in T20 cricket and she has been showing signs of striking top form with bat and ball. The $10 on offer is tempting.

Australia will have overwhelming crowd support and while South Africa have been impressive, the home team just looks too strong across the board. South Africa will need pace spearhead Shabnim Ismail to make early inroads and if they can take a couple of early wickets the pressure on the hot favourites will skyrocket. But we have to predict a comfortable win for Australia. Good punting.
