Collingwood is a $1.85 favourite for this contest, with the Blues at $2, with the match to be played behind closed doors, following the latest lockdown from the Victorian government. The $1.90 line has been set at 1.5 points, which is too narrow for us.
The Magpies recorded their first win under Robert Harvey last outing when they upset reigning champion Richmond, with their usual suspects torching the Tigers’ midfield.
ALL AFL TIPS
The Blues fought bravely but were clearly outclassed against Geelong on Saturday, eventually losing by 26 points, despite the continued heroics of young midfield star Sam Walsh.
Collingwood has resisted the urge to tinker with their line-up, with just Will Kelly, who injured a leg against Richmond going out of the team. He is replaced by last week’s medi-sub Trey Ruscoe, who looked much more likely as a defender.
Carlton has suffered a major blow with captain Patrick Cripps (soreness) out of the team to face the Magpies. Fellow midfielder Will Setterfield (omitted) and Lachie Fogarty (injured) are also omissions. Defender Liam Jones and Zac Fisher have been recalled.

Jordan De Goey to have over 25 possessions
Collingwood fans have long been waiting for De Goey’s transition into the midfield and it finally looks to be clicking for the talented, but inconsistent star. De Goey appears to have found the groove of grinding out games through the midfield and we think he might enjoy going toe-to-toe with a Blues team missing Cripps. He is paying $1.40 to reach 25 touches at Unibet, which is a nice leg to pad out your same game multis.
Harry McKay to kick 3+ goals
The Magpies backline has been decimated with Darcy Moore and Jeremy Howe’s injuries and plenty is going to be left up to Jordan Roughead in this contest. The Roughead v McKay contest could go a long way to deciding who wins. For Blues fans, they need McKay to fire, or they simply won’t kick enough points to challenge the Magpies. He is paying $1.82 to kick 3+ goals (with AU betting sites) which looks decent value given the dry weather forecast and the opposition.
Sam Walsh to get 30+ possessions
Walsh has reached 30 possessions in six of Carlton’s last eight games and he will need to play a blinder here for the Blues to win. The Magpies, under Nathan Buckley, rarely tagged and we don’t see that changing under his long time lieutenant. Walsh to reach 30 possessions is paying $1.83.
Collingwood Magpies v Carlton Blues prediction 18/7
Carlton definitely can win this contest, but they will need to find a way to curtail a nearly full-strength Magpies midfield, without their inspirational skipper Cripps. We think this might just leave a little bit too much for the likes of Walsh and Matthew Kennedy to do through the guts. Collingwood has really looked a different team since Taylor Adams return from injury and De Goey’s emergence as a top shelf midfielder, which is enough for us to stick with them here. Our final Collingwood v Carlton prediction? Magpies by 19 points.
